There is an absolutely lovely and talented woman named Annie Haslam who lives nearby in Pennsylvania who is very active in breast cancer awareness and she has one of the most remarkable voices I have ever heard. She is also a fine artist and inspiration.

Just heard a recording on sirius of the Tommy Dorsey orchestra with Ella Fitzgerald singing "music goes round and round". Wow...great stuff. You can't ignore that the big band era produced some of the greatest musicians and singers of any era. The list of brilliant singers is very long but topped by Ella Fitzgerald.

Let's see...I'm going to stick to rock, so I like (in no particular order):

Grace Slick (back in the Airplane days)
Stevie Nicks (back in the 70s before her voice went to pot)
Ann Wilson
Pat Benatar
Gwen Stefani
Kate Bush
Janis Joplin
Annie Lennox
Suzanne Vega
Deborah Harry

As far as country goes, I really like Gretchen Wilson and Miranda Lambert. I don't care for the pop-country crap put out by the likes of Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, or Martina McBride. By the way, the two chicks who sing for Little Big Town are really good, too.

That's Belinda C from the Go-Gos. She's really good.

I don't like female singers with no "power" in their voices.

I must add Bonnie Tyler ... she sings the hell out of Total Eclipse of the Heart. [One of my favorite songs .... don't tell anyone, I'd have to kill you. ]

"Forevers gonna start tonight ....

Once upon a time I was falling in love ... but now I'm only falling apart
There's nothing I can do a total eclipse of the heart
Once upon a time there was light in my life .... but now there's only love in the dark
Nothing I can say ... a total eclipse of the heart. "

I friggin' [and I don't mean friggin'] LOVE that song. [And I'm a minority ] I LOVE IT ... absolutely LOVE it !!!

I always liked "Total Eclipse of the Heart."
The remake someone did a few years ago was horrible, though. The Bonnie Tyler version is the only way to go.

The reason her voice was so raspy in that song was that she had just recovered from throat surgery prior to recording. The producer apparently liked the sound of her voice like that so it was recorded as is.

The Voice of "The Sparrow" (Edith Piaf) melts my heart and would get my vote by a mile!

IMHO, no woman can sing like Meav Ni Mhaolchatha can. She has the purest voice.

You mean this lady I referenced in the first page?

Annie Haslam from Renaissance. She could sing in at least a 5 octave range. Some say all 8.
