Byrne Identity: Flacco's "It" Factor
We'll guys..
Its time for the weekly best read and insight you'll find about the Ravens..
http://www.baltimoreravens.com/News/...It_Factor.aspx
Quote:
I asked Mike what he thought of Flacco going into the game and what he thought after. “We knew he was good,” Nolan said. “But, he’s better. He doesn’t blink. We did a lot of things to rattle him, but he stayed strong. Most of the quarterbacks blink with all that pressure. He doesn’t. He kept plays alive. He made tight throws. He’s a got a chance to be one of the good ones.”
Couldn’t agree more with Coach Nolan. My opinion, though, is that Joe is there now, and he’ll get better and better as he plays more. Flacco is one of the good ones. He is “Just Joe” as he says, but he is “Joe Cool.”

The question now is....
Is Joe already there with the "good ones"?

Seriously though. It is amazing. Dare I say it, that not even Ray Lewis has brought the kind of excitement to this town as Joe. You can feel it when you watch the games. You could feel it in his first games at M&T when the Baltimore crowd started chanting "Let's go Flacco". You can feel it at Training Camp in Westminster when everyone, and I mean everyone is yelling his name.
Baltimore already loves Joe, and I know that he is going to do great things with this team.

And I am so happy that I got my authentic #5 jersey autographed at McDaniel this summer.

I love Ray, but he aint no Quarterback.
QBs rule this league, if you have a good one, you most likely win, if you have a bad one well........make sure you use your top 5 pick wisely.

Joe Flacco really was the perfect fit for the city and its fans. He's a great quarterback who has a chance to be top-5 in the league in a couple of years.

With no coaches salary cap, we need to lock him up for a long time.

I doubt he gets a lot of head coaching offers, but Cam will definitely be here for about 3 more years.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. He's clearly behind Brees, Manning, Brady, Rivers, and Rodgers, at this point, and it's really debatable when you get to the 2nd-tier with guys like McNabb, Roethlisberger, Flacco, Warner, Palmer, and Schaub. Personally, as of right now, I'd rank the top-QB's at Manning, Brees, Brady, Rodgers, Schaub, Rivers, Palmer and then a toss-up of Flacco, McNabb, and Roethlisberger.

Joe is going to be up there with Unitas, Montanna, and that group of elites, it shows already.
It took some time but we finally nailed one!

Roethlisberger isn't as prototypical as maybe Brees and Brady, but he's money in the 4th quarter and he's a winner. I'd certainly take him over Rodgers and Schaub, who are still good.
Anyway Flacco's up there with Rodgers for sure, and after a year or two we can see how his consistency is.

I hate this logic. So Dan Marino was never one of the great ones? Would John Elway never have been great if he didn't win in the mid-90s? Was Peyton Manning not an elite quarterback before 2006?
What about Drew Brees - he shouldn't be considered great quarterbacks?
Conversely, does winning somehow bring Trent Dilfer into the pantheon of greatness? Did Eli's 2007 ring really cement him as a top-flight quarterback?
I'm not saying that Flacco is even close to being a top quarterback but he, or anyone else, shouldn't be denied elite status solely on the basis of not winning a championship.
It is a TEAM sport.

Anybody who puts Schaub and Rodgers over Roethlisberger (with two SB rings) is a fool. Yeah, he's a Steeler , but he is a winner.
Flacco IMO is on his way to top-tier QB status. With better receivers he'll be unstoppable.

All Flacco needs are consistent big play weapons, he already has the knowhow.
Kind of cool actually referring to a "RAVENS" QB in this manner, I'm more than happy.
