Most of the 16 arrested (among more than 1,000 overall) in Project Shadowfire were members or affiliates of the infamous MS-13 gang, with others members of Eighteenth Street and Sureños. “Transnational criminal gang members and their associates not only bring violence to our community, they also deal in human trafficking and drug smuggling. These organizations find the vulnerable and the weak in our neighborhoods and exploit them for personal gain,” Andre R. Watson, Baltimore's special agent in charge for Homeland Security Investigations, said in a statement. “This is why targeting members and affiliates of these gangs will always be a top priority for HSI, because ensuring public safety is a top priority.”
