Part of what we're trying to do in Saving Freedom is just show that where we are, we're about where Germany was before World War II where they became a social democracy. You still had votes but the votes were just power grabs like you see in Iran, and other places in South America, like Chavez is running down in Venezuela. People become more dependent on the government so that they're easy to manipulate. And they keep voting for more government because that's where their security is. When our immigrants get here, they're worried, because they see it happening here.

How nutty are Republicans? They have six years of unfettered power, and when the populace wants something different than what they want, they claim nazism.

Republicans have to learn that democracy doesn't mean they always win.

No wonder no one takes Republicans seriously.

Wasn't the left making this claim about Bush for 8 years? Now, I'm not so sure the Germany analogy is a good one but this statement is 100% correct:

People become more dependent on the government so that they're easy to manipulate. And they keep voting for more government because that's where their security is.

Its different when statements like this are made by a congressman. Democratic congress members weren't calling Bush a Nazi. Leftist protesters were...

Regardless of which party is in power, it looks bad when Congress people don't respect the office of the POTUS...

I don't see anything inaccurate in the article, but the thread title is disingenuous.

Addressing a gathering of atheists in his home state of Minnesota, Keith Ellison, a Democrat, compared the 9/11 atrocities to the destruction of the Reichstag, the German parliament, in 1933. This was probably burned down by the Nazis in order to justify Hitler’s later seizure of emergency powers.

“It’s almost like the Reichstag fire, kind of reminds me of that,” Mr Ellison said. “After the Reichstag was burned, they blamed the Communists for it, and it put the leader [Hitler] of that country in a position where he could basically have authority to do whatever he wanted.”

To applause from his audience of 300 members of Atheists for Human Rights, Mr Ellison said he would not accuse the Bush administration of planning 9/11 because “you know, that’s how they put you in the nut-ball box – dismiss you”.

He said "...where we are, we're about where Germany was before World War II where they became a social democracy." His language was not as precise as it might have been but obviously he's not talking about Germany under Hitler but Germany before Hitler. And he could be right, though I don't think conditions here are quite so severe yet. But they might well get that way before this is all over.

Of course one would hardly expect the title of this thread to be anymore profound than the integrity of its source. Though I must say, I am taken aback slightly; I hadn’t expected the pigmies in the peanut gallery to start with the Nazi stuff until much closer to the election. Goes to show, you just never know what the talking point monster might spew out on any given day. It's best to wear a raincoat and keep on your high waders around here.

Everyone takes Republicans seriously. That is why the media hates Sarah Palin. She is smarter than them.
I agree tha the US under Obama isn't like under Hitler. It more like being under the know-it-all kid you grew up with that really didn't know jack $h!t. Everyone believed him until he finally screwed everything up to a point it cost us all a ton to get rid of him.

PS: Obama is a one term President....if that!

People become more dependent on the government so that they're easy to manipulate. And they keep voting for more government because that's where their security is.

I think that's the ultimate goal.

BTW, I wonder who's paying for all of that "dependence"?

Actually this is true.

Hitler gained in popularity and wasn't views as the monster we know him as today.

Bush was never that popular in comparison.

Obama... VERY POPULAR but I hope we are starting to see through the smooth talking liar.

That's because they can feign outrage and cry racism. Recently, an Anne Arundel Republican felt compelled to apologize because she compared Obama's insanely quick policy moves to the Blitzkrieg. I think the comparison is valid given all the crap getting pushed through congress without even being read.

The Wiemar Republic ended in 1933; WWII began in 1939.

I imagine by your standard we could describe Bismark as "before WWII."

The telling point in DeMint's comment is his use of the term "social democracy." Use of that term seems a rather obvious connection to the official name of the Nazi Party. Or, are you trying to say the Weimar was a "social democracy."

Jim DeMint is many things -- but stupid, impulsive, and reckless are not on the list.
