yep...RC...you are so right. my two older sisters are like that...and...that's why they can't be a part of my life...along with other things. they're mean...resentful...won't let go of the past...women. and they wallow in their misery.

My Dad is like that and he says something almost everytime I talk to him...if not about me, about my Mom, or my brother. He's "Mr. Perfect" and can do no wrong.

 

I am pretty sure he is the reason I get so upity and nervous when I think I have done or said something wrong (when the person doesn't even know what I am talking about). The feelings of "you can't do anything right can you?" pretty much are ingrained in my make-up now.

 

One time he got escorted out of a restaurant for yelling at my Mom so bad (blaming her for the death of their beloved dog, when she had nothing to do with it...) she was bawling. I was so mad...but if I say something to him she gets it more.

I agree with OPS here. I have a boss that will put you down in front of his peers. I just look at him and say, "Then I'll just sit back and let you do it all so it's done to your satisfaction.". He recently told our female CEO that I called him an "F'in jack-***" one day. She looked at me and asked if he deserved it and I said yes he did. She just said "Good, now aren't you glad you came back to work here?".

No, they experience failure but keep it pretty well hushed hushed.

Well sort of. They basically suffer from a deep inferiority complex and they wage a continuous struggle with it, within themselves. All sorts of little things act as triggers that can make them go off the deep end without warning. In their own minds, they've come to see themselves as just the opposite, and that is what a superiority complex is all about... someone with an inferiority complex that has re-made themselves to act superior and is not afraid to call others out whenever they can elevate themselves.

If someone does it repeatedly, I consider the source, and put them on ignore. I do appreciate constructive criticism...not that I need it.

They are usually, at least in my experience, very passive aggressive people with lots of skeletons that need to focus on the flaws of others to make themselves feel self-righteous for the rest of the day.

Ultimately, you should not let others define who you are. If you do, you are subject to the whim of others - a sign of emotional immaturity. There is very little use in dwelling on why others act as they do. Far better to dwell on why we act as we do.
