UVA's Bratton brothers

14 posts in this topic

Just turned on the UVA vs Bucknell game, and they mentioned the Bratton twins are not on the UVA team anymore, well one is off and one might come back. Why did they get kicked off? Two years in a row for this team to have to deal with huge off the field issues. These off the field actions are starting to sound very similar to reasons why the Duke HC was let go.. Has Starsia lost control of the program or is it just the type of kid he is bringing into the storied program?

From what I have picked up on the internet, thus it's accuracy is questionable:

UVa's lacrosse team established rather strong drinking rules for the spring - perhaps being that players could only drink on saturday nights. The Brattons didn't like these team rules, and got caught early in the season and suspended for the Stony Brook game. Later, S.Bratton was suspended for the UMd game. Apparently, their next problem occurred because they didn't return from Ryan Young's mother's funeral in NY on Monday, in time for Tuesday's practice. It would appear that this lead to Shamel's being removed from the team, and R.Bratton being indefinitely suspended. What has been said behind closed door, I know nothing about.

That's what I heard. Making the situtation involving the Young funeral worse, the UVA goalie (Ghittleman) also went to the funeral in LI with the Brattons, and he made it back for practice at UVA the next day while the Brattons stayed in LI to party for another day. Also, the team voted Shammel off the team, not the coaches.

This is an ongoing soap opera that has become an embarrassement to UVA and the sport itself. Starsia has been running a country club for the "elite" and he should be on the grill for all that has gone on under his watch off the field...The Brattons may define WASTING YOUR GOD GIVEN TALENT!

The reports are saying that Starsia will not be letting Rhamel Bratton back on the team for the Cornell game.

Starsia didn't get much scoring from his midfield against Bucknell.

Sounds like change is needed at UVA. Bring in Pressler. Wouldn't he love to beat up on Duke every year. The program needs a new voice, too many problems that we have heard of and I am sure there are tons more that didn't make any headlines.

Wonder how many kids in UVA's lax program have been arrested since Dom took the reigns?

USA lacrosse found him to be okay to be the HC. Has he had any issues at Bryant? Maybe he learned something about character outweighing talent in some cases. The guy deserves another chance at a bigger program and to stick it to Duke would be fitting.

Starsia has run a good program for years and you point to a couple of isolated incidents and want him ousted? It seems he has handled the Bratton situation quite well, how many other coaches would have given the a lesser punishment then put them back on the field because of their ability?

You're right, he doesn't deserve to be fired for these incidents, but he can't continue to have his players causing trouble off the field. Hopefully this is the last year his program makes headlines for off the field issues and he gets more quality kids like he recruited in the 90's / early 2000's.
