Interesting AAA updates

Joel Piniero tonight in 1st start: 6 IP 3 H 1 R 0 BB 5 K's and Bill Hall 2nd HR, hitting .290. Roch says O's paying very close attention. Don't be surprised if Piniero is our long man and Hall becomes backup 3Baseman very soon

I forgot we signed Joel.

Orioles player development needs to use pitchers in the role we intend to use them in the majors.

Berken and Bergeson relieve in the majors, but in the minors they are starters?

How the heck do they think that's going to work out?

They are trying to stretch them out so they can long relieve. It's actually smart. Did either Piniero or Berken pitch for anybody in Spring training?

Stretch them out? They are starting pitchers. They are used to throwing 100 pitches.

You're asking them to go from knowing exactly when they'll pitch, every 5 days, at a set time, to having to get ready to pitch in 10 minutes at any given time.

The conditioning is different, the mind set is different.

Also, Berken wasn't a long reliever for us.

Another interesting update: Bergesen relieves Piniero, who took his rotation spot.

Oh good. Well, hey, that's addresses one of my major concerns with our roster management.

No but he's one of the candidates to fill our current long reliever spot.

I think Berken showed too much to be relegated to mop up.

That was what, 3 years ago? O's no longer view him as a quality set up man. It's between him,Piniero and eventually Hunter (when Britton's back) for long man spot

He got hurt and we're only one season removed from Berken throwing in 40 games to a 3.03 era.

He had a strong finish to last season, baring the disaster game when Britton only pitched .1 inning and Berken basically had to make a spot start out of the bullpen.
