As I said in another post, if all we do this off-season is to get rid of JJ, Nate, Feldman (so far), and only bring in players off the scrap heap, there is going to be a very justified backlash against the organization. It's just incomprehensible to me to destroy the goodwill and renewed interest in the team after the 2012 season like this.

So the O's gameplan is to get worse. Sounds about right.
The kids are alright.

That's the Angelos way, get worse on the field and
for his pockets to get filled with more money. That
old bastard will never get it.

He's a cheap, greedy bastard and if we don't make any significant moves to be competitive, people should stay away in droves.  Maybe when we're averaging about 10K a game, he'll wake up.  Nah.....

the O's carried a payroll that was $21M less than the Nats in 2013. The O's owner gets the lion's share of the MASN revenue.

the 2014 payroll figures aren't in yet, but we know that the O's have been clearing money off the books while the Nats have been increasing their payroll.

I really enjoyed the past two seasons. I'm sorry to see it end so suddenly.

The O's gameplan is to maximize $$$ for Peter Angelos.

The Nats gameplan is to win.

Which is why they overpaid  for an everyday player to be their 4th outfielder.

this is so poignant. for a few brief seconds it looked like PGA's pride wasn't going to allow a team with lesser revenue to out class him. but then he said Fuket, I like being rich.

Seriously.

He looked like the Savior of Baltimore ~20 years ago.

I backed him. You backed him.

But he doesn't care about Baltimore.  Or the Orioles.  Or you.  Or me.

He just cares about himself.

Nate is going to be the 4th outfielder for the Nats. Evidently, there is just no need for a scrappy ballplayer with a good glove, quick feet, and a patient bat on the Baltimore Orioles.

So you'd have been ok paying him $5M per year for his production?

I think the bigger issue is that they will go with a minor leaguer, who has yet to prove he's a MLB talent, over Nate, because the minor leaguer will only cost a few $100K. that appears to be the real deciding factor. clearly, $5M/yr is an overpay for Nate. but it's not a bank busting salary by any meands. PGA has moved back into the warehouse and we're seeing telltale signs that he has taken over full decision making authority once again. for me, this is one of them. letting a player walk, to save $3M is classic Angelos.

Well good luck to him and the Nats.  He was a great addition in 2012.  2013 started off solid but he stopped hitting down the stretch.
