The first time I heard these songs in the 1970s, it blew my mind

 

 

Little Sunflower - louis hayes, leon thomas

I saw Leon Thomas perform a few times in the late '80's. You should check out this album:

 

 

 

Leon Thomas & Gary Bartz Quintet: Precious Energy

 

 

It was recorded live at the old Ethyl’s Place in Baltimore; probably in the mid ‘80’s.

Speaking of Baltimore jazz clubs, remember the short lived "Bandstand" in Fells Point?

 

I saw Cedar Walton perform there.

I do remember the Bandstand, but I never made it to that place. Mike Binsky used to promote the music there. I used to hang out at the Jazz Closet on Franklin Street in the 1980’s.
