I disagree, he's garbage. He's no different than Sprewell or AP or any ultra, ultra millionaire complaining about contract offers to play a sport. Considering the poverty in South America, he's spitting in the face of his own culture along with the fans in this country.
I just don't understand how someone can get to the point where they consider a guaranteed $25 million a year salary an insult.
I'm with you. I realize that the world of pro-sports is it's own universe. and you're right, people like him have their priorities all screwed up. but I don't think it makes him a bad person. he's just an insecure man-child. I pity him more than anything. it will take him about 6 months to realize he still lives a shallow, meaningless existence. but now he gets to do it in the MLB shadows. if he thinks he's disrespected now, wait until he the baseball world completely ignores him as he toils away in the pacific NW.
the good news for him is, w/i a few years, he'll start complaining about the annual losing. and the mariners will realize he doesn't draw enough to justify his salary and the clubhouse disruptions. that's when they'll trade him. and who is the first team in line to trade for overpaid, athletes in their declining years? he'll get his money, and he'll get to return to NY.
