Orioles claim right-hander Liam Hendriks off waivers from Cubs

By Eduardo A. Encina The Baltimore Sun

4:15 p.m. EST, December 23, 2013

The Orioles claimed right-handed pitcher Liam Hendriks off waivers from the Chicago Cubs, the team announced Monday.

The addition of the 24-year-old Hendriks, however, doesn't alter the Orioles' offseason search for a starting pitcher to help solidify the club's rotation, executive vice president Dan Duquette said.

Hendriks was 2-13 with a 6.06 ERA in 30 major league games (28 starts) over the past three seasons for the Minnesota Twins before being claimed off waivers by the Cubs on Dec. 13.

Last season, Hendriks was 1-3 with a 6.85 ERA in 10 games (eight starts) with the Twins. He was also 4-8 with a 4.67 ERA in 16 starts with the Twins’ Triple-A club in Rochester, N.Y.

the joke of it all, is that these are the only moves they will make. I love the 6+ era. poor DD, the guy is reduced to picking through the dumpster behind the restaurant that is mlb.

If moves like this are going to be the extent of our off-season, Angelos deserves every bit of criticism he is going to get. I can't believe he is going to squander the goodwill and renewed fan interest of the last two years. Just horrible.

This guy didn't make it through 5 innings against the O's last year so he'll fit right in with this staff.

But I thought we were building through the farm system?

Attendance increased from 1.733 million in 2010 (when the team first showed signs of life late in the season) to 2.102 in 2012 and 2.357 in 2013.  Assuming the team continues this garbage collection offseason, it'll drop back at least to the 1.7 mark.  Nice job moneybags!

all of that goodwill that the O's have built the last couple of years is being flushed down the toilet.  You should read some of the facebook comments on the O's page, its getting ugly. And well deserved.
