I'm as upset about the offseason as the next guy, but I really like that the O's picked up Alex Gonzalez. He is getting up there, but a minor league deal for SS with power is a smart move for this price. I don't know if we'll see him with the O's this season, but still nice. http://www.mlbtrader...x-gonzalez.html

If utility infielders were blocks of gold, they'd have to move the team to Fort Knox.

I think in general we can justly give credit to Duquette for a number of savvy minor, behind the scenes moves. It makes sense to build up the Orioles' system. If only he could pull the trigger on just one or two major moves. I don't think it was too much to ask for ONE STARTING PITCHER and ONE SOLID HITTER (DH, 2B, OR LF). I know the free agent market was not that deep and of course is grossly overpriced, but that is the environment in which MLB teams must compete. The Orioles' reluctance to make any attempt at an impact move at the major league level is frustrating to me, a fan, even an insult. If they are competitive this year it will depend on a bunch of marginal players getting much better, and I don't see how we can take that to the bank.

The Orioles:
Utility infielders, 4th outfielders, #4 starters, relief pitchers.

Thats all we needed was another utility infielder, we must have 15 of them by now. 105.7 has been playing a snippet of an interview with Duquette the last couple days from fan fest basically saying that the Orioles will not be signing any prolific players , but instead developing their own and supplementing through FA.

did he also tell us that the sky is blue, George Washington was the 1st president and that taxes are due on April 15th?

was he talking about anything interesting, or was he just running thru a list of things that everyone already knows  :P

"another' smart gamble? What would be the 1st and 2nd smart gamble?

As the Orioles have been spectacularly unsuccessful for 27 of the last 30 years ( 3 playoff appearances in 30 years) I would argue they've done nothing smart
