Neither move is a big surprise as Leach and McClain both had diminished roles last season. In cutting Leach, the Ravens open up $1.75 million of cap space. The McClain move saves them $3.2 million under the cap.

According to a source, the Ravens would like to re-sign McClain, a long-time favorite of the coaching staff and front office, but it would have to be at a reduced rate.

This doesn't upset me too much (not like last year's cuts).  Leach started out like gang busters and I was glad we re-signed him.  As the season went on his performance dropped.

McClain being out with the spinal injury made me wonder how good he'd be when he returned.  He didn't do bad all things considered. I do feel bad for him, he worked hard to get back on the field.
