Is Caleb Joseph Coming Around?

20 posts in this topic

It looks like now that he's getting some regular playing time. He is gaining more confidence and adjusting to the big leagues. I'm not saying that he'll necessarily be a full time player. But, that he will be a reliable back up.

He had nowhere else to go!

Schoop seems to be adjusting quite well after an early rough patch.

it would be great if he becomes a viable back up option. But I think it is simply 2 ABs where he got a hold of a mistake.

I still wonder why not steve clevenger. TeamSteve seemed a better hitter.

I know they've each had a couple hits the last few days (which is eventually gonna happen no matter how bad you are)... but this Joseph / Lough combo just isn't gonna cut it on the MLB level

I think Joseph is a better defensive catcher than Clevenger. Also, is it coincidental that our pitchers are doing better when he is behind the plate? Now that he is playing semi-regularly. He is getting used to playing at a MLB level and it is showing in his offensive production.

GO CALEB!! :)

Is he batting his weight yet?

.170 average vs. 180 pounds

Which leads me to ask.....a 6'3" 180 pound catcher?  He should be glad they banned collisions at the plate.  He'd be a freakin' pancake.

2 for 3 tonight, 3 RBI's and a good sacrifice bunt, :)

now hitting .218 which is better than Davis, Flaherty and Lough. ;)

He's nine for his last 32.

Definitely heating up.

I hope so. His bat looks really quick right now. If he climbs, he could potentially rival Wieters short-term. He's throwing out basestealers at the same clip, and the rest of his defense has been very good.

If you go to his Wikipedia page. His minor league credentials are very impressive. So much so, that I think he would be a viable replacement for Wieters.

I have a hunch that Sisco is the long term solution.

As for Weiters, it stinks, he was on his way to 27 home runs and his best overall year by far.

Caleb Joseph has really been swinging the bat well for a good while now. In 200 ABs, his average has now climbed  to .240 with 9 2B, 8 HRs, and 25 RBI. Pretty impressive considering his slow start with the bat. He also threw out another base stealer last night in Hamilton. Great job CJ!!!

he certainly has exceeded all expectations. granted, the expectations were low. but he has 25 RBI in 200 ABs. I don't know if it's wise to extrapolate that out over 600 ABs for the year, but if you do that, he's a 25 HR, 75 RBI catcher. that's not bad at all. and he's a favorite of the pitching staff. rumor has it that Hundley and Clevenger were Buck's original plan, Hundley would be the primary, and SC would be the back up. but the pitchers lobbied Buck to give the job to CJ.

some of you know my opinion that MW is just biding his time until FA comes so that he can skip town. maybe that won't be as catastrophic of a loss now.

I agree, I am puzzled by those who said he wasn't really known for his offense?  Guy has some pretty big numbers in his minor league career, and hit for power.

If the O's have to decide between Wieters and Davis Caleb might have made Wieters expendable.
