Standing "O"

27 posts in this topic

Folks, the war on women has been won in B-More

What an absolutely disgusting display

Battered women everywhere shuddering

ANOTHER standing "O" for Ray Rice.

I would say that this was a "black eye" for Baltimore sports fans, but perhaps that would be inappropriate given the circumstances.

Deplorable...

I cannot blame the fans. They didn't have the video that was shown today. All they had was Rice's word. Most (probably all) teams would have rallied behind their stair tailback if they thought the evidence was flimsy. And I was one of those who thought it was. I saw the original elevator shot. Many conclusions could have been drawn from that.

Really?  You are going with that?  Apparently you never saw the video in February where he dragged her out of the elevator and then kicked her?  Or the police report that said he knocked her unconcious.

So you thought the police just made up that police report?  Rice even admitted to striking her.

The difference is that before yesterday everyone close to the situation had reached the same conclusion: it was not a big deal.

The police let Rice and his GF leave that night. Together.

The prosecutor gave Rice a light plea.

The NFL gave Rice a light suspension.

The GF married him.

The Ravens did nothing.

As an observer I assumed that all of these people had more info than I had and they all reached the same conclusion.

Really everyone thought it was no big deal??  I thought it was a pretty damn big deal when i saw the video 6 months ago and said so in this forum.  I can't help that you have purple shaded glasses on and couldn't see the the truth, but the national media and people with IQ's above room temperature KNEW IT WAS A BIG DEAL months ago when we saw him dragging her lifeless body out of an elevator and kicking her.

Maybe. But I think, as Olberman pointed out, that even the non-homer national media dropped the ball big time on this one as well. Not as much as the local media, but without the appearance of this latest video, the outcry was lukewarm at best. Now it's getting the attention and outcry it should have had 7 months ago. And as some of us pointed out, it was primarily financial on the part of the Ravens because of the way Rice's contract was structured. They should have simply terminated him and eaten the stupid contract they gave him, which they ended up doing anyway.

I'm glad you had it all figured out. Good for you. Little ol' me just isn't as smart as you. ;)

That's exactly right. Anyone who saw the first video and couldn't figure out what had happened in the elevator just isn't very bright. So you can spare the sarcasm; you nailed it.

Yes. Basically I figured that I did not have all of the facts and I do not have any influence on the process.

Well I guess you figured wrong, then, huh?

Yep.  I was wrong in my assumption that the NFL, Ravens, Police, and Prosecutors had done their jobs.  But that is not my job or responsibility

I was correct that I did not have he facts and I was correct in that I did not have direct influence on the process.  It ended up being a good lesson for my son.
