O's MASN Profit Figures Are Astounding

44 posts in this topic

Too bad for the Nats with that one sided deal.

Then again, that's what happens when a new team is introduced into another's market.

Another team's market?

They didn't move into Baltimore....that's Baltimore's market.  They moved into DC....which is a completely separate market with their own media.

The Orioles liked to play the "We are a great baseball town" card but then couldn't bear to actually prove it by supporting the baseball team without DC being vacant (or much less with a football team in Baltimore as well).

Then they act like they are being encroached on....I guess then the Pirates should complain about sharing PA with the Phillies....and the Marlins Florida with the Rays.  It's absurd.  You wanna know who the big crybaby is?

The Orioles, and their fans.

Baltimore is a small-mid size market like Pittsburgh, KC, Cleveland, Milwaukee, Cincy...DEAL WITH IT.  You can't have it both way...you can't act like you are this great baseball town but then cry poor when you don't have hand cuffs on the DC market.

There are many small and mid size markets in baseball....Baltimore needs to STFU and get over it....they aren't a mega market and should be lucky they had the gift of DC for as long as they did (which even that is disputed....many DC fans did not like the Orioles....many liked the Yankees or nobody).

Most of NC is their territory. I cannot get Orioles games through legal means here because the games from MLB.com are blacked out even thought the local cable system doesn't carry them either,

Few if any in NC give a hoot about the orioles....it's just more propaganda on the how the O's like to act like they are this storied, major dominant franchise fanbase ala the Red Sox with New England, but in the "mid-Atlantic" that hardly is true.

Lerner signed the MASN deal in order to get the Nats.  Pretty simple.  He just needs to shut up and eat it.  Good for Petey.  Better late than never, but we are finally seeing the MASN profits plowed into the team.  145mil payroll is bigger than Nats now I think.

WRONG WRONG.

Lerner is not the bad guy, it's Angelos.

Angelos signed a deal that said the Nats every five years or so were entitled to re-negiotate their rights fees for the fair market value.

At the time, Angelos thought the model was to copy YES or NESN and own the cable station, but instead rights fees went through the roof....now if Angelos could do it over again, he never would have created MASN because the Nats TV rights are worth a lot more.

Angelos is the one crying and complaining, not the Lerners.  They aren't upset so much about the ownership split not being 50/50 (and really it should be 65/35 Nats...if the O's are even shown in the DC market-which they shouldn't).  It is Angelos refusing to abide by the terms of the deal and pay the Nats their fair share for TV rights.

MASN should be dissolved, Nats games in DC, O's games in Baltimore, just like Cincy/Cleveland.

It's funny that O's fans always act like they are the victim of the cheating Yankees, when in reality, they are the snack in the grass weaseling and cheating their way through things....acting like both a big market wanna be bully and the poor victimized small market.

Sounds like someone needs some education on what contracts are, along with a basic lesson in geography.

Sounds like bluecountry needs to get over it.

Sounds like kudzu got himself a new IP address and is angry about having to go through the hassle of circumventing his being placed on the permanently banned list  :D

this. An infinite times.

And there are Orioles fans which most are and there Angelos fans which some of those who post regularly are.

BTW. It's a cold school night in DC, rained for 2 weeks and the Nats are playing to near capacity in an interleaved game against Detroit. Great fan base. No chance of riot closing down the city either

I always thought the dc team should have been based in northern virginia as opposed to between the two cities. You can't tell me the nats didn"t syphon off fans and ad revenue from the o's.

Angelos was absolutely right to extract the best deal possible

Maybe "market" is the wrong term. Territorial rights however are a very real concept that are a part of MLB league-sanctioned business dealings. Like it or not, MLB and the Nationals used MASN to compensate the Orioles for moving in to an area that was part of their MLB sanctioned territorial rights.

Blue Country you are bigger whiner than Lerner and the Nats.  Petey is getting over on you guys in the art of the deal and you can't handle it.  Just eat it and get over it.  Chalk one up for Petey and the O's reap the benefits with a 145mil payroll.

You keep rooting for Angelos to get rich, the rest of us only care about baseball. Keep up the Petey adulation. The Lerners have a ways to go to equal the ineptitude of over 20 years of Orioles failure. (32 years if you are counting the World Series game played in Baltimore)

Over the last 4 years, who has the better record?

BTW, if the Lerners woke up with Angelos' bank account, they'd kill themselves.

Lars the 145mil payroll and the best record in the AL the last 4 plus years is the proof in the pudding.  Yep as long as Petey is plowing the MASN profits in the Os its all good.  So how your Yanks doing with their bloated payroll?  Last place huh.  You probably should shut your pie hole on this topic.

In the last 32 years the Orioles have won nothing. In that time the Yankees have won 5 World Series, 3 of them in a row. THat's more Championships since the Orioles last won 1 than the Orioles have won as a franchise.,. They had one of the greatest seasons in Modern baseball. They haven't had a losing season since 1992 when Buck SHowalter was the manager. THey have also had more playoff appearances since 1992 than the Orioles have had since 1954.

Petey is plowing MASN profits to the Democatric National Commitee, Union organizing, his Horse farm in Baltimore COunty and his sons. The Orioles could have had top 10 payrolls for 20 years, but chose not to.

Good luck rooting for the AngelO's

All that success for the Yankees and yet some of their loser fans still troll an Orioles board.

You still a Colts fan?

I'm confused, Lars is now a Nationals as well as Yanks fan? I also wouldn't doubt that Scherzer is his favorite baseball player in the world as of yesterday.

????!

WRONG WRONG WRONG.

Sorry to hear that you are so misinformed.

In case you aren't aware, Pittsburgh is not a small market town. The Penguins just won the Stanley Cup. In fact, they won it in 2009 too.

You may have heard of the Pittsburgh Steelers? They have 6 SuperBowl rings: they have won 2 titles in the last decade.

You list Cleveland as a small market town. Guess you have never heard of the Cleveland Cavs. Are you familiar with the NBA championship?

Have you heard of the Baltimore Ravens? They won a SuperBowl a few years ago.

Kansas City, maybe you are joking? Or a troll. They won the a World Series last year. Perhaps you live in seclusion.

Umm so what does that have to do if a market is large or small?

My point exactly...Baltimore IS a small market and needs to deal with it instead of blaming the Yankees or Nats for their woes.

A smaller market that owned league recognized broadcast / territorial rights over a large market footprint area... which MLB and the Nationals ownership then agreed to compensate them for releasing. If they didn't think the Orioles ownership had a very good chance of blocking the move altogether in court, had they chosen to take it there, they probably wouldn't have agreed to the arrangement... the same arrangement they now cry about making.
