Former Baltimore Mayor SRB held a $54,000 "farewell party", categorized as “campaign field expenses,” Maryland now auditing SRB's campaign spending.

Well, former Baltimore Mayor SRB's campaign spending is being audited by the state of Maryland after reports from the Baltimore Brew of how she spent her campaign funds according to this Baltimore Brew article reporting that SRB used $54,000 in campaign funds to fund a "farewell party": https://baltimorebrew.com/2017/02/01/rawlings-blake-spent-54000-on-farewell-party/

The wine kept coming and so did the filet mignon, empanadas, pork sausages, poached pears and gourmet pastries at the party that former Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake threw for herself a month before leaving office.

A dj got the crowd up and dancing, a magician circulated among the guests, delighting them with card tricks.
For take-home favors, there were mini-bottles of Mumm Napa sparkling wine.
The cost of the November 11 bash: $54,437.

But neither Rawlings-Blake nor her guests paid for the private event at Bar Vasquez, an upscale Argentine-themed eatery near Harbor East.
Instead, the full tab was deducted from “Stephanie Rawlings-Blake For Baltimore,” her political fundraising committee.
In reports to the state Board of Elections, the committee categorized the costs as “campaign field expenses” for a campaign that never was.

The general rule, says Jared DeMarinis, director of campaign finance at the Elections Board, is that a candidate’s funds should only be used in furtherance of a campaign, not for personal uses.
An office holder who is no longer running for office is expected to transfer campaign funds to other political committees or donate them to charity.

DeMarinis said his office plans to audit the financial statements of the Rawlings-Blake committee based on the earlier story in The Brew about her expenses.

She's an idiot.

Sure is, it looks like her campaign spending after she announced she would not be running for re-election as Baltimore's Mayor was purely personal and not anything to do with furthering a campaign:

Since that announcement, The Brew reported that she spent over $150,000 in campaign funds on consulting fees, meals at sporting events, hotel rooms at the Democratic National Convention, gifts to U.S Conference of Mayors staff and other activities.

According to her January disclosure report, she has spent another $94,000, drawing down her committee’s cash balance from about $425,000 in September 2015 to $177,947 on January 11, 2017.

By far, the biggest single expenditure was for the November 11 party.

She may be an idiot, but it's not illegal.

Why is the State of Maryland auditing her campaign spending then?

Why is the State of Maryland auditing her campaign spending then?

Because she's an attractive, young and successful black woman and anyone who questions anything she does is just jealous and has a vendetta.

That should cover it. Did I leave anything out?

First it was Sheila "The Shoe" with gift cards.

Then SRB with campaign funds.

Now CP is having some difficulties involving money.

I'm not the kind of person who would suggest that women politicians seem to have trouble handling money but if I was now is the time I'd do it.

According to the info in the linked article it may have been illegal. That means very little though. I doubt she will be charged or further inconvenienced by any of this.

Amazing.  If no laws were broken the MdCrats certainly made it clear how much they value donor's money.  As Jim Smith could have told her: A war chest of unspent campaign money is a valuable asset.  Instead they blow the cash on a big party.

Duhhhh. Because it distracts the populace from what the MD GA/gooberment should be doing. LIKE AUDIT THEMSELVES? OR BC SCHOOLS ETC.

Bingo. And how much of these left over funds from people that decided NOT to run get sprinkeled around to other candiates...not just in MD ....but across the nation. The kicker for me is that someone with those funds in one state can 'give' them to anyone they want in another state.

There a big article in the Sun about Slating (not state)....all I could do was SMH.

Yeah yeah....maybe Trump (as screwed up as he is) is right. everthing is fixed and you can't change it.... as the song goes.
