Safe travels. How does 90 compare to his normal? About the same I think.

When Tillman is dominant, his fastball flashes in the 93-95 range.  His velocity jumped to that 2 or 3 years ago for whatever reason.  He used to pitch around 90 and his results were more mixed. I think his velocity was down in 2015 when he kind of stunk.

But for first time out 90 isn't bad. He should be able to bring that up.

Which is the same as a press release from the team.

If i remember correctly, when we first recalled Tillman back in 2012, he was throwing 95-97

Or, it's like reading a text from Big Dan Duquette.

The 90 mph is irrelevant at this stage because this is like early spring training for Tillman. What's important is that he didn't report any pain.

Dan doesn't use phones according to Chiti

It's good to see him at 90 MPH in his first rehab start. He also only threw 45 pitches and Tillman's the kind of guy who gets better/throws harder deeper into games. Shoot, sometimes 45 pitches gets him through just 1-2 innings.

So it's a good first step for him. Hopefully he doesn't suffer any setbacks.

Good point.  I always thought that may be part of his problem in getting out of the first inning.  He comes out in the first throwing 89-90mph then by the mid 2nd to third he is up to 94 mph consistently.  He even touches 95 when he needs to gas someone.  Overall a good sign for first outing.
