Casino Sued for Downgrading Jackpot to Steak Dinner

BROOKLYN (CN) – A woman claims in court that the casino called it a “machine malfunction” when she hit the jackpot playing slots, giving her just a couple of bucks instead of $42 million.

The machine’s “bells, noises and lights” all told Bookman she won the jackpot, according to hte complaint, plus the screen displayed the message “printing cash ticket $42,949,672.76.”

The complaint notes that casino agents escorted the Far Rockaway woman from the floor, however, telling her to come back the next day for a “decision” on her winnings.

When she did, the casino allegedly cited a “machine malfunction,” telling Bookman that all she was entitled to was a steak dinner, plus the $2.25 balance that the casino says was left on the machine when she hit the jackpot.

According to the article, the maximum payout on the machine was $6500.  In my opinion, there was either a software glitch or the machine was hacked.  If Ms. Bookman did not arrange for someone to hack the machine, then I think she should get at least $6500.

It depends where the signs were posted and if they can prove the signs were posted before her win and not put up afterwords.

The top payout on the machine is $6500 so obviously it malfunctioned.  The symbols on themachine in the selfie she took shows she won next to nothing,  Another person looking for a quck payday.  Guess that's why she was gambling to start with.

Do these machines malfunction the other way? And does the casino press these winnings on people?

Hacked?

You think the Russians mistook this gambling device for a voting machine?

Casinos are set up to ensure that the gamblers lose. Anyone who can't see that deserves what they get.

Looks like it happened once before and the person got nothing.

Maybe they give her the $6500. which the lawyer will take 40%.

Here's a lesson for everybody: the house always wins; if they didn't they wouldn't be in the business.

Every machine will have on it a label saying that "Malfunctions will Void any payment" or something to that effect. I don't know of Any machines that would have a jackpot of that size except for "Maybe" a Mega-Millions machine. Then I don't know how the NY state gaming system is set up. The Top Dollar slots such as Mega-Millions and the popular "Wheel of Fortune" machines are all linked in what is called a Wide Area Progressive (WAP) network of machines. IE: all WOF machines are linked so that what goes into them builds the Jackpot for All of them. When the Jackpot is hit, it registers at the Manufacturer (IGT, WMS etc) and they verify the jackpot. If you walk into a casino and see a whole row or bank of machines with a lower same number, say a few hundred or thousands on top of them, they are joined as a "LAP", Local Area Progressive where one of those may hit a Jackpot higher than any Individual machine payout the same way. NOW, those are all individual RNG machines and NOT linked together as here in MD where all the payouts are determined by the State Lottery System. You will Never see a Progressive Jackpot on any machines here for Hundreds of Thousands or More as you will in AC and LV. Last time I was in I think MD Live or Perryville, I saw Dollar Machines where the Top "Progressive" that advertised was like $6K or so. That's Peanuts where in AC & LV those same machines will pay Loads "IF" you get Lucky. That's One reason I Won't play here anymore.

THESE are Real "Slot" machines, what you play here is the Lottery Computer!

I won 10k in Las Vegas at Treasure Island while waiting for the show about 15 years ago, must have taken over 1.5 hours to get the $7,500 check in my hand.

I made a copy of the check, still have it.

It all went to college tuition, we had two in college at the time.

A slot machine will not print a voucher for millions of dollars.

All the machines I have seen. When extra large payouts are won.

Will display on the screen, "Hand Payout required, please

notify slot attendant."

As I stated on another thread. Maryland's casinos are a joke.

You can win 6 grand on a slot in AC or Vegas without winning

a jackpot.

The reason why they told her to come back the next day. Was

so they could review the security camera footage.

I reread the linked article. Her attorney is asking that

she be paid $6500.00

PS: The check they give you will have Federal taxes deducted.
