Oregon Adds A New Gender Option To Its Driver's Licenses: X

A decision by Oregon's Transportation Commission makes it the first state to allow residents to identify as "non-binary" — a third gender option beyond male or female.

SMH. People are born male or female; this is not intolerance, it's science. Why do they continue to push this nonsense?

It is apparently in response to the expressed desire of the citizenry.

Confused citizenry which does not justify such silliness, IMO.

Yeah, this is pretty ludicrous.  Biologically, you are either male or female, and also for law enforcement purposes, having an ambiguous gender creates some problems too.

The Left Coast has pretty much gone off of the deep end.

I'm fine with people "identifying" themselves personally as whatever gender they wish(though IMO, quite a bit of this can be linked to mental illness of some type) - but for documentation purposes, law enforcement, you cannot get around biology.

This is what happens when there is no leadership.

Uh oh now they will have to hire "non-binary" cops to search or frisk them. That will be more well spent taxpayers money

I don't think confusion was the issue.

that's rather dubious seems they just solicited comments from the public in general  they say only 12 expressed opposition, no number on those who were in favor-- I don't much care about the issue one way or another but it doesn't seem like this was in response to any groundswell of support, probably more in response to  a court ruling cited, maybe they just want to be ahead of the game, anticipating likely challenges- which is not a bad thing. Also appears to be just a unilateral move by the MVA, the legislature may take it up in the future.

Do the expressed desires of the citizenry in the name of democracy apply to all issues?  Apparently not.

Yeah, other than those who are effected by it directly, and I can see why they would have strong feelings about it, I don't understand why people should care.

Indeed. Look at the health care plan the GOP is planning to shove down our throats.

However, the OP suggests that this is something the state is "pushing" it when in reality, they have based it on public testimony.

You are in favor of this nonsense? If something is based on public testimony it's justifiable, in your opinion? Or does it matter if you agree with it?

Outside of Portland, Oregon is very much a red state in all the usual respects. No sales tax and the fuel efficiency standards are abysmal.  The Interstate 5 corridor smells like a muffler shop.

I don't have a problem with it. The upside is it makes people happy. What's the downside?

Our founding fathers saw democracy as "mob rules" which is why they formed a Republic.

They were able to put in place different fuel standards than the federal standards?  What does a muffler shop smell like?  Midas in bel air doesn't really have a smell.
