Schiff: Trump’s Team Is Using ‘Scorched Earth’ Tactics To Undermine Mueller

Quote

“The President wants to take down Bob Mueller. His lawyer wants to take down Bob Mueller,” Schiff said on ABC News’ “This Week.”

He said “the question is why.”

“I think the answer is they want to lay the foundation to discredit whatever Bob Mueller comes up with,” Schiff said. “They’re essentially engaging in a scorched earth litigation strategy that is beginning with trying to discredit the prosecutor.”

It was interesting to see the 180 our righty posters here pulled when it became clear that Mueller was closing in on Trump. It perfectly follows the anxiety demonstrated by the Trump admin.

It's a very dishonest "discredit the witness" gambit.

Unfortunately it will work with Trump's chumps as they believe everything Trump and his admin tell them to believe.

nothing like trying to smear a highly respected civil servant and decorated war veteran.....this is typical of the giant orange snowflake, attack people in hopes they back down...good luck on this one as he is taking on someone who has more integrity in his little finger than all of the giant orange snowflake's staff..... this attempt to smear will fail....one poster here already tried to smear Muller...it didn't work.....

what the giant orange snowflake and his misguided followers don't understand is all of the issues swirling around him are his own doing....bad judgement in picking staff, inability to control himself, and a narcissistic need to tweet his "thoughts"......

What's rather amusing is the claim that Mueller is "closing in on Trump".  No doubt some people in here are privy to evidence that nobody else has seen.  Or maybe they're just projecting their wishes.

What's actually funny is how between Trump and his lawyers, you can't even make out whether they actually know anyone is under investigation or not.

If he isn't, Trump is wasting his time. Why would trump keep attempting the character assassination of Mueller if this is not the case? After all your Fox News even gave ten reasons why Mueller was the best pick just one month ago: Mueller appointed Special Counsel: Ten reasons for Dems, Republicans to breathe easier

And this is not surprising at all. This is how trump conducted his business. He used a great tactic: “Strength lies not in defense but in attack.” Now where did he get THAT tactic?

Or more likely you are projecting yours.

Mueller is pure Washington establishment along with Comey. He should never have been appointed and should be fired.  Trump should appoint an SP to go after Hillary and Lynch. Or at the very least, appoint an FBI director and instruct him to actually investigate them rather than make the foregone conclusion that they were only involved in " matters".

You have been a consistently funny poster. So you want Trump to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Trump!:lol::lol:

Oh I hope he keeps firing everyone that investigates him.

True. Should someone tell him that Trump cannot appoint special prosecutors to go after his enemies?

Trump should be quiet.  If he hasn't engaged in collusion, he has nothing to worry about on that score and it is that issue which Mueller is supposed to investigate.

It matters little to me.  Pence is as good as Trump for the single reason that neither is Hillary Clinton.

Like I posted - this is par for the course for Trump - nothing surprising here.

Use the government to go after his enemies. Great idea. You highlight the importance of the establishment - to insure some integrity in the process.

Saticon did the same 180 that veritas did:

I take a different view, if Trump truly did not do the things he is accused of, someone like Mueller and an honest independent unbiased investigation will reveal that which would be good for Trump, not that I would expect his opposition would accept that if it would be the result, but at least the timid Republicans that want to fence sit if not out and out oppose him now, would support him and his agenda. You seem to be concluding he in fact did all he is said to have done and I guess of course a real investigation will show that-- but, I ask, what if it doesn't? Do you think this is "it" for the left? I mean if he was exonerated? Sure they would continue on the unfit stuff, but would anybody listen that mattered?

I respectfully disagree. Given enough time  and enough  money as the saying goes " A prosecutor can indict  a ham sandwich  . "  Example: Scooter Liddy (sp ) . The Sec. of Labor that asked for his "reputation back."

True but Trump can't do much short of replacing Mueller which comes with its own bag of problems.

Scooter Libby was guilty as hell.

They already   knew the leaker ,  I think Richard Armiger   ( sp) , in Colin Powell's office , so there was no need to involve Libby .

Hell, look at Clinton. Investigated for an Arkansas land deal ends up getting impeached for lying under oath about oral sex.

Republicans are well aware of the perils of a special investigation. It was a strategy they used themselves to try to bring down Clinton. They are now outraged that it could happen to them.
