If one fearlessly ranks all 221 of Maryland's 2017 teams from 1 to 221 and then assumes the higher ranked teams win all games (using the schedules of the irreplaceable eaglesinsider), then the Week 10 playoff points will look like this (the exercise will be repeated using the 2017 MaxPreps pre-season rankings once they become available) :

It's not that Towson is highly ranked - they're only at #144 - but, on my scorecard, Towson has the 2nd weakest schedule of any 3A or 4A team.

Can an 8-2 record get them in the playoffs with a weak schedule.

An 8-2 Towson would be a lock to make the playoffs.

But even if Towson lost their first four games to start the year 0-4, they would STILL have a decent shot at the playoffs with wins over #163 Loch Raven, #176 Woodlawn, #179 Chesapeake-BC, #180 Pikesville, #189 Lansdowne and #196 Sparrows Point.

1) 10.8 Milford Mill (9-1)
2) 10.3 Franklin (8-2)
3) 7.7 Edgewood (7-3)
4) 5.7 Towson (6-4)
5) 5.6 Aberdeen (5-4)
6) 5.4 Dundalk (5-5)

Don't see Mervo only winning 3 games. Maybe 7-3. Worst case 6-4

Towson is a perfect example of why Balt County should NOT have gone back to 3 divisions with a developmental division. Towson should be playing all 3A and 4A schools, not LR, SP, Pikesville or Chesapeake. They will not beat Woodlawn this year either. Who are the first 4 against?

Here's their schedule according to Eagle.  Even I don't quite see 7 losses:

Mergenthaler Vo-Tech:

Week 1 (9/2)- Dulaney

Week 2 (9/9)- at William Penn (DE)

Week 3 (9/15)- Poly

Week 4 (9/22)- at Dunbar

Week 5 (9/30)- at Robert A. Taft (OH)

Week 6 (10/6)- at Patterson

Week 7 (10/13)- City

Week 8 (10/19)- at Douglass (Baltimore City)

Week 9 (10/27)- Digital Harbor

Week 10 (11/3)- at Edmondson

Yeah the beat all the Maryland teams this year so that's 8 wins, don't know about the out of state teams. Mervo brings back their best 3 offensive weapons

So should Woodlawn, Patapsco and Lansdowne. I think 3 divisions makes sense, but not the way they split up. (See previous posts) That developmental division is the stupidest thing I think I've ever seen. But, still Towson not going 8-2. I see them losing to Dulaney, Woodlawn, Patapsco and Perry Hall.  Maybe Chesapeake AA too

Towson:

Week 1 (9/2)- at Chesapeake (Anne Arundel)

Week 2 (9/9)- Perry Hall

Week 3 (9/16)- Dulaney

Week 4 (9/22)- at Patapsco

Week 5 (9/28)- at Sparrows Point

Week 6 (10/7)- Chesapeake (Baltimore)

Week 7 (10/14)- Loch Raven

Week 8 (10/21)- Lansdowne

Week 9 (10/27)- at Woodlawn

Week 10 (11/3)- at Pikesville

That's a BS schedule for a 3A school.

Since some people are talking about schedules, I'm a Hereford guy and I'm very disappointed with the team's schedule this fall. It is probably the weakest since the pre-Turnbaugh days, with five 1A teams, four 2A and one 3A. Granted, the County is mostly responsible for this with their ridiculous re-alignment which brought the Developmental League back for the dead (four 3A teams and three 1A), but Hereford should have scheduled another quality non-County team in addition to North Harford. Obviously, County teams were allowed to schedule multiple non-County opponents this cycle. Franklin booked Dematha and Smyrna (Del), New Town got Reggie Lewis and Thomas Johnson, and several other County teams have two non-County teams on this year's schedules as well.

The Bulls' schedule does little to prepare the team for the playoffs or help the kids become better football players. I would rather see Hereford play a high quality non-league opponent and lose than have to watch them beat up on a team like Sparrows Point.

Ops,

Taking a look at the region Hereford is in:

Hereford

New Town

Northwestern-B

Lake Clifton

Gwynn Park

Carver

Eastern Tech

Edmondson

Crossland

Patterson

Owings Mills

Central

Do you see a team in their region that could give them fits in the playoffs?

Gwynn Park, 9-2 last year, playing tougher competition in PG County than what Hereford faces. Also, New Town put up 42 against the Bulls last season.

So everyone is clear, not all county teams were able to schedule MULTIPLE out of county games. In the top division every team except Franklin only got 1 open week. Funny how Franklin was given 2...

Most teams were given 2 "crossover" games against the other 2 divisions. Again a total debacle as all the county powers managed to get their crossover games against the 3A teams that went down to the developmental division. Dundalk gets Lansdowne and Patapsco as their crossovers, still 3A teams. Yet take Kenwood for example, still plays all the 4As and the best 3As and then gets 1A Western Tech and 2A powerhouse Hereford as their crossovers. Beat Western and get 1A playoff points and likely no bonus points. Lose to Western and they're the laughing stock of the county. Now I dare someone to tell me this schedule was made at random. It was made to keep the big boys at the top and keep everyone else in the middle of the pack. Such BS

At my first glance I was thinking Gwynn Park as well.  Yes, New Town scored 42 points, but your Bulls scored 58 points.  But I understand where you are coming from.  Hope Hereford were able to schedule some tough scrimmage games.

Of the 183 school, there are 16 whose projected win totals using my rankings differ by more than 3 wins from the projected win totals using the MaxPreps rankings.

E.g., Pikesville is projected as 6-4 using my rankings and 0-10 using MaxPreps rankings, a difference of 6 wins.

+6 Pikesville (6-4) vs (0-10)
+6 Frederick (10-0) vs (4-6)
+4 Bladensburg (7-3) vs (3-7)
+4 Flowers (6-4) vs (2-8)
+4 Kent County (9-1) vs (5-5)
+4 Potomac (7-3) vs (3-7)
+4 Washington (5-5) vs (1-9)
-4 Chesapeake-BC (3-7) vs (7-3)
-4 Harford Tech (3-7) vs (7-3)
-4 Mervo (4-6) vs (8-2)
-4 Northwestern-PG (1-9) vs (5-5)
-5 Central (0-10) vs (5-5)
-5 Gwynn Park (3-6) vs (8-1)
-5 Patuxent (5-5) vs (10-0)
-6 Bel Air (4-6) vs (10-0)
-6 Southern-Gar (1-9) vs (7-3)

This is a lot of work thanks JMT. Very good stuff.

ALWAYS good work from you JMT!  Thanks for sharing this info...as well as your attempt to rank all the high school.  That's not an easy task.
