Stanford Study Confirms What Common Sense Already Knows: Right to Carry Increases Violent Crime

86 posts in this topic

Anyone who takes their cues from a pro-gun industry group should get in touch with the Tobacco Institute for information on smoking.

Examining decades of crime data, Stanford Law Professor John Donohue’s analysis shows that violent crime in RTC states was estimated to be 13 to 15 percent higher – over a period of 10 years – than it would have been had the state not adopted the law.

The working paper, released this week by the National Bureau of Economic Research, challenges the effectiveness of RTC laws and could have a significant impact on pending litigation between the National Rifle Association and the state of California.

Donohue’s paper builds on the National Academies’ National Research Council’s 2004 reportinvestigating guns and violence.  While that report debunked claims that RTC laws had been shown to reduce crime, the 16 experts on the panel were not able to definitively conclude that carrying concealed weapons had an effect – positive or negative – on violent crime. Their uncertainty was rooted in the fragility of estimates that were derived from differing statistical models applied to panel data available at the time.

Interesting article. One thing I did not see was that those who have CCW are the ones responsible for the supposed estimated increase in violent crime.

And if they are not, then what did the algorithim suggest was the reason forbthe estimated increase?

Oh and another thing.

How does violent crime cooralate to CCW?

So if I decide to get a CCW violent crime will increase?

Sounds like more of a reason to have one,no?

Is the studies author saying CCW carriers are the ones contributing to the violent crime?

Hey if it's not in Vegas who cares. There has to be a $4.00 48 oz sirloin to get his attention.

This thread died quickly.

More post about popcorn, confusion over a city and a college that aren't even spelled the same. Not to mention cheap steaks in Vegas, than the actual thread subject.

:D

If it is not in Vegas I doubt geography is all that important to your boy.

Back to the subject:

The South East is home to a large percentage of open carry states.  And the SE has some serious crime centers and vast swaths of poverty
