North Korea Has Miniaturized A Nuclear Warhead

Notify China, be willing to cede NK to them, and be prepared to take out Kim and NK leadership in a short term and decisive attack.

Extend all Hyundai and Kia warranties due to possible parts shortages which will hopefully be short-term.

Encourage China to retire Kim themselves or by communicating it to NK's military after isolating Kim.

Crazy, yes.  Suicidal?   If he nukes someone he has to know that he will not survive it.

How did our actions contribute to a nut dictator getting nukes?  Do you think he ever had any other intention?  The guy is completely unstable.  One can only hope that he realizes that firing off a nuke is the end of him and his nation.

Really?  Does the axis of evil followed by the ridiculous invasion of Iraq ring a bell?  Is it any wonder after that that both Iran and NK fast-tracked their nuclear weapons development programs?  Not to mention that in the process of making those ridiculous decisions we scuttled a deal with NK?  Come on now

Why would we invade a place that has nothing we want and which would arouse China?  Ironically, getting nukes gets them closer to destruction than not getting them.

Tell that to Iraq

We live with a nuclear NK.  Especially considering how much our actions contributed to this current situation.

I agree with the first part; the second, not so much.

SK appreciates your concern for the massive casualties they will take as a result of this

It's fine if you disagree... but seems to me that if you label 3 nations as part of an axis of evil, and then summarily invade the 1 of the 3 that doesn't have a nuclear weapons program that you are going to cause the other two to really ramp up their nuclear weapons programs.

I think it's pretty harsh to say the IC failed. North Korea is pretty unpredictable

The question is, can we live under the threat of a nuclear armed NK? Or will we go to war?

Can we live with a nuclear armed NK who will be able to blackmail the US whenever it chooses?

To make that connection is to relieve NK of three generations of bad decisions.  They could have resolved the issue in 1956, but instead decided to remain a belligerent, despotic barely there nation-state with hungry people and a corrupt "governing" entity.

Nation-States most assuredly do respond to the conditions around them but NK has been on the edge of war for more than 6 decades.  Your position would have more merit had NK started their miltary focus in 2002, after the Axis of Evil meme was given life, but we both know that is not the case.  The move to nuclear weaponry is just the natural progression of a nation focused more on being a military power than taking care of its own people.

Yeah and what blackmail from NK are you willing to accept? Your silly answer shows just how naive you are when it comes to a nuclear armed NK.

Wow, you seem to think that war is inevitable... or are you hoping that it is?

if there was to be a war I was kind of hoping for a conventional one limited to just the Korean peninsula.

And how many casualties are good with you if we go to war to stop it?  Talk about silly.  This isn't a damn game

Trump is staying focused on the important stuff

Would you prefer Trump get into a Twitter war with NK before the Pentagon and other intel agencies look into this report?

I never said that their nuclear ambitions started with the axis of evil.  However, before that we had a deal in place that the GOP was sabotaging from the get go.  Then we scuttled that deal, labeled them part of the axis of evil and then invaded Iraq.  You'd have to be crazy to think that those actions didn't cause both Iran and NK to dramatically speed up their nuclear weapons programs

We'd prefer he stay the hell off twitter, stop whining about the media and Hillary Clinton and act like the president of the United States.  How utterly foolish of us

Why do small, rogue states want nukes?  So they don't get invaded.

NK is not finished with the Korean War. Fear of being invaded is the least of their worries. I'm guessing now they've armed themselves to the teeth since the 50's they are hoping the US invades them.

All Kim has to do is threaten to use them whenever he wants concessions from the US. The first concession will be unilateral sit-down talks with the US for purely political purposes. They will use their nukes to blackmail the US and we will have no choice but to comply.

That didn't work with the USSR so what makes you think that we'll just roll over like that for NK?

Why is Kim always described as crazy? What does he do that's crazy? All I see is a small group of elites who know that their only choices are to maintain power or die. Seen in that context, Kim (and the rest of the leadership class) seems pretty rational to me.

Tell him 'No'.  If he uses a nuclear weapon then the US will destroy him.

The world is going to suck up all the known oil reserves in 40 years. North Korea needs to us it’s nuclear fuel to power electric generation plants & switch to electric cars before there is no gas to run their economy. The US could help make this transition.

That is a carrot worth offering.

Oh sweet Jesus... trump is just as much of a maniac as Kim.  I understand that you have to let NK know that all options are on the table, but you have to do it rationally.  Does this response sound rational to you:

"North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States," the president warned, responding to a question during a brief press availability at his Bedminster Golf Club, where he's spent the last several days. "They will be met with fire, fury and frankly power the likes of which this world has never seen before."

Maybe I'm over-reacting, but this seems like a very irresponsible way to address this situation at the moment

Best solution: lock Trump and Kim in a room until they, well whatever, that's not even important. Let's just get them safely locked away in that room away from the rest of us.

Wait a minute.

Your own post says post of these nations accelerated their programs based on our actions in Iraq.  Of course it's the GOP's fault; such goes without saying  because we have neither a Democratic White House nor a Democratic majority in either House of Congress since 1955.  Oh, wait...

Your post tells me first, that they had already made the decision to develop a nuclear capability and were working toward that end.

Of more importance however is that the GOP "sabotaging" of the "Agreed Framework" began in 2002 when ASOS Kelly went to NK and accused them of maintaining their enrichment program, despite their agreement not to do so.  The CIA wrote that the NK had developed of producing enough enriched uranium for "at least two weapon per year".  I guess we should have paid even more attention, since some estimates now put the NK arsenal at as high as 60 weapons.  Let's split the difference and call it 30; 15 years since 2002, times two per year....hmmm.

Even more significant however is this; if, in your reasoning, Iran has incentive to "dramatically speed up their nuclear weapons agreement", why should we continue to operate under the Obama Executive Agreement?

That assumes that Iran and NK had no nuclear ambitions pre-Iraq, a contention I find to be without foundation.  Pipsqueak dictators always have delusions of grandeur and these places are no different.  NK has unwittingly moved themselves much closer to destruction.
