Teachers recall Arundel High grad wounded in Las Vegas as leader on and off the field

Arundel High School teachers on Tuesday recalled Tina Frost, the 2008 graduate shot in the mass murder scene in Las Vegas on Sunday night, as a leader on the soccer field and the classroom.

“Tina was on my team as a senior. She would light up her room with her smile and is incredibly kind, incredibly courageous,” girls soccer coach Laura Coe said at a press conference held at the Gambrills school. “To see her in the hallways you would have no idea how ferocious she was on the field.”

Frost was shot in the right eye, which had to be removed. She is in a coma and on a ventilator, her mother, Mary Watson Moreland, said on a GoFundMe page set up to help offset the medical and other costs associated with Frost’s injuries.

Her mother’s note on the webpage gave further medical details valid as of Monday night. A piece of Tina’s forehead was removed to allow her brain to swell. She is in intensive care and is expected to remain in a coma for “at least a week.” Doctors will check to see how she responds to stimulation. “But until then we won’t know how bad the brain damage is,” Moreland wrote.

Las Vegas shooting victim out of coma, remains at Johns Hopkins, family says

Tina Frost, 27, an Anne Arundel High School graduate from Crofton, has emerged from a coma after being shot in the head during the Route 91 Harvest festival, and has since traveled to Baltimore, where she is now being treated at Johns Hopkins Hospital, according to another update.

According to the update, Frost has started writing on a white board and is already attempting to walk.

“She was just moved out of ICU today and her new room on the 12th floor has a great view of Baltimore, its own bathroom which she likes jumping out of bed on her own, forcing us and the nurses to scramble to assist,” the post said. “The next few weeks she will continue physical, occupational and speech therapies and relearn what she has forgotten and maybe even start speaking.

“Lots of her friends she grew up with and the “California Crew” really are a great support and invaluable to us and, of course, her face always lights up when she sees her Austin.
