Why are we still shocked that men in power abuse women when Donald Trump is the President?

The presidential election was essentially a referendum on this. No wonder Weinstein felt safe.

For decades.  LOL.  I know... it's not funny.

I know, you don't know me, however it's safe to say they won't/cant answer your questions because they have no rational argument, only deflection and half-baked excuses.

The big h does not answer questions... he asks them.  Carry on!

Your argument is that Weinstein "felt safe" due to Trump's election, which would lead on to believe that he did not feel safe during his years of abuse. Where is your proof of that?

You cannot claim one without proving the other. Well, I guess you can. But as you can see, no one who has replied agrees with your premise, which is fallacious.

Weinstein feeling safe due to the election of Trump is not contingent upon him feeling safe before.

His power had protected him. The election of Trump would serve to re-enforce the safety he may already have felt.

Is there any reason why you would not think it is true that the election of Trump might make him feel safer? After all, America just put one who bragged about sexual assaults in the White House, even in the face of a dozen accusers.

Weinstein was doing this for decades before Trump was president. Many things one might blame Trump for, this ain't one of them.

Weinstein is one of that group of wealthy and powerful men (and, who knows, maybe women) who think their wealth and power entitles them to do whatever they like to whomever they like, whenever they like. Nothing's going to change that except very harsh punishments (e.g. put Weinstein in Sing-Sing for ten years or so), and the people who would have to levy such punishments are the people least likely to do so - the wealthy and powerful (mostly) lawmakers. I'd bet a good number of them are doing the same things, and therefore they'll never change the law. Instead what happens is, every so often, someone gets caught, gets sued, pleads mea culpa, goes into rehab, emerges a better person, and all the other things they do that have no real effect. And all the other offenders breathe a sigh of relief that it wasn't them and keep right on offending.

It is the fundamental nature of human beings to mistreat each other for as long as they can get away with it.

So we have two guys who, recent revelations tell us, sexually assaulted women. One goes to Sing-Sing and the other goes to the White House. There's a mixed message here..

So did Weinstein's powerful friends.  Right as rain when a progressive does it.   Only a fraud would pretend to be shocked by it.

The "people" put a sexual assaulter in the White House, and we're supposed to be outraged over Weinstein?

What progressive did it and it was "right as rain"?

The people who put (or tried to) Clinton and Obama in office.   Selective outrage is a fraud.  Abuse of power is nothing new.  Anyone who is only now shocked by it is a fraud.

You'll need to be more specific about Clinton and Obama.

That's a lot of people. They just put a sexual assaulter in the White House.

What?  No 'We' put a sexual assaulter in the White House.   You certainly played your part.   Your selective use of pronouns is about as fraudulent as your outrage.

As for Clinton and Obama, scroll up a little.

It avoids my argument. The nation just elect president a man who bragged about sexually assaulting women. At least a dozen women came out and accused him during the campaign. Enough voters didn't see that it mattered.

And the part about comparing such a man "who gets what he wants" to a woman who acts the same way is spot on. The election proved it. Our society more values a man who sexually abuses women to women themselves. The last election proved that.

It destroys your "argument".

Like most other people sexual predators are responsible for their own behavior.

But with you Liberals it's always someone else's fault especially when a fellow Liberal is involved.

In this case your failure to prove your point is a result of your straying from the Liberal excuse mantra; Weinstein had a bad childhood,, fell in with the wrong crowd, was in the wrong place at the wrong time but has found Jesus and is getting his life turned around.

Stick with what you are familiar with. Your forays into the world of creative blame assessment are a debacle.

Perhaps the same as OJ getting convicted for two counts of first degree homicide?

Yet when it is clearly pointed out that Weinstein was a big money* man for his progressives he courageously deflects.   And 'we' should be shocked?

*remember, progs hate big money in politics except when they don't.

What does that have to do with the country being willing to put a bragging sexual assaulter in the White House while expressing shock at what Weinstein has done?

What candidates who accepted his donations knew that he was a sexual assaulter?  We all knew Trump was.

A good chunk of Hollywood apparently knew.

Sorry to break the news to you but it is practically expected for the political class to be sleazebags.  If you don't know this then my lack of shock is not the problem.

So you don't know if anyone knew that Weinstein was a sexual assaulter , while we all knew that Trump was, and to you that's the same.

Thanks for playing. :)

False.   A good chunk of Hollywood apparently knew.   I'm just not shocked by it.   When faced with choice of picking the lesser evil what will you inevitably get?

This is like explaining to a preacher what actually goes on in a whore house.

The thread title really should have stopped at "Why are we still shocked that men in power abuse women".  I mean let's face it, it's ridiculous for us as a nation to pretend to be shocked when stuff like this happens.  Degrading and demeaning women is baked into the cake here and most times it happens in such small ways that most people don't even realize they know that they are doing it.
