Democrats winning bigly in VA and other places

190 posts in this topic

Also, the Democrat, Phil Murphy won Chris Christie’s seat in NJ.

I guess the GOP will have to come up with some better ideas than fearmongering over Immigrants

Also, VA elected a Transgender person to their House of Delegates

This is a great night... no more bullcrap about polls, or how Dems can never win elections, it's all dead. Northam outperformed the polls, big time, and looks like he's gonna win by 9 or 10 points. Dems will gain at least 10 in House of Delegates. Trumpism lost big tonight. God bless VA, they've always seen right through Trump's BS.

Midterm gold?

Nice to see demagoguery lose tonight.

If true in VA, it means a Democratic governor with the veto power over gerrymandering during the next redistricting.

Turnout in Virginia was up bigly.

Northam also outperformed Hillary in the 18-30 demographic.

A long way to go but it's one of the first encouraging signs for the dems at the electoral level since October 2016

There have been positive signs even in the House races they have lost.

Quote

Former Goldman Sachs executive and major Democratic donor Phil Murphy will replace Chris Christie and serve as New Jersey’s 56th governor, after defeating Republican Kim Guadagno in the election Tuesday.

CNN and other major networks projected Murphy as the winner immediately after the polls closed at 8 p.m.

The contest to replace the unpopular, term-limited Christie lacked drama, with Murphy leading in polls by double-digit margins throughout the summer and fall.

How wonderfully delightful that a vicious anti-gay bigot like Bob Marshall would lose to a transgender candidate.

http://wtvr.com/2017/11/07/transgender-candidate-danica-roems-defeats-delegate-bob-marshall/

Quote

Danica Roems has defeated Bob Marshall in the House of Delegates, becoming the first transgender person elected to represent the Virginia state legislature.

Her victory was defined by a significant lead over Marshall, who has been in office since 1991. The decisive victory also calls attention to the distinctive, contrasting ideology between the two candidates.

Marshall has consistently been at odds with the LGBT community. In 2015, Marshall was very outspoken against Governor Terry McAuliffe’s so called “gay agenda.” He introduced House Bill 1414, that would allow anyone who obtained a state license to morally or religiously object to serving someone who is gay or lesbian.

I wonder how much can be attributed to Trump's numb-nut son telling stupid righties the wrong day for the election.

NYTimes has them at +11 seats (45 total) so far and if I'm reading it right, there are still enough close races left for them to win several more.

Turnout in VA was way up. I think this mostly about an energized group of voters sickened by Trump, Gillespie, and what went down in Charlottsville.

Hillary got 1.6 million votes in Virginia.

Northam got 1.33 million and counting

Perhaps the right's support and association with outright nazis rubbed real Americans the wrong way.

Who'd a thunk it?

I knew this would be the spin you guys would go with if Gillespie lost

If he won, the spin would be all about how Dems suck at politics

Congrats to Gov-elect Northam.  Not a VA resident, so doesn’t affect me all that much.  I am glad this one is over though.  After a gentlemanly debate, this turned nasty.  Felt like I had to windex the TV screen after every commercial.
