Democrats winning bigly in VA and other places

Running against Trump works

It will be interesting to see how this plays out in Maryland next November

Hogan won’t have these issues. He was a never Trump guy from the get. GA folks in some districts will and Andy Harris will have some issues if an Eastern Shore moderate steps up. Depending who runs in the MD 6 that will be interesting!

Do you think there was any chance the Don would take credit if Gillespie won?

Yup after all he recorded a robo call for him that day!

I find it hilarious Trumpers kept saying Gillespie needed to embrace Trumpism to win... then when he embraced Trumpism and lost, they were like “Well, Trump didn’t win VA so who cares”. Do you guys really not realize how stupid you sound? All I can say is keep it up. Will help us tremendously in the midterms if you guys keep your heads in the sand.

With Northam winning the Republicans can't gerrymander Virigina districts in 2020 like they will want to, which is what they needed to offset the demographics that are starting to work against them.

If this happens again in 2019 they won’t be drawing the map! Aside from which I expect SCOTUS to end it this term. 6-3 vote!

It would have been shocking had Republicans won either race in hard core Democrat strongholds in an off presidential election year.  I mean the Democrats didn't seize control over Wyoming the year after Obama won.

New Jersey twice elected a Republican governor - Chris Christie.

I wouldn't call Virginia a democratic stronghold. It's a purple state that has gone for Clinton 49 to 44, Obama 51 to 47, Obama 52 to 46 and Bush 53 to 45.

You are being kind to refer to it as leadership. I am sad to admit that as a Republican I am more embarassed by some of these people every day. Leadership would be to stop cowtowing to Trump, given his issues. But instead too many of them are still kissing his butt. :(

Also, if you look at the past year, on three different occasions they've cast votes allowing the dems to paint them as trying to kick people off of health care. That's just not a winner and this tax bill is a mess as well.

So, not only are they embracing unpopular measures but they are botching the execution. It's a lose lose.

???? Virginia is a swing state and off year elections like this favor GOP candidates usually. Oh and the AG who won was the dem too. Bad news for Manafort!

Except Comcast carries DC fox on 75.

Not in Baltimore county.  At least not through January of 2017.  75 was WGNA out of Chicago.  The only Fox station was WBFF channel 45 out of Baltimore.

Think that's why elections are more and more decided in the suburbs. You know the urban areas will go blue and the rural areas red. Broadly speaking the suburbs tend R fiscally and a bit foreign policy but D culturally. With men leaning more red and women more blue.

SSDD, the pendulum swings.

Good point.  What is weird to me is that Dems do little to help urban areas and Reps do little to help rural areas.  Yet the pattern persists.

It's also very likely that he'll get either a primary challenger or a serious third party candidate such as Kaisach/Bloomberg/Corker

Why not? He seems reasonable on many issues.

He’s a self serving egoist plutocrat, for one thing. He’s also more likely to take from the Dems than the Reps, i.e., help Trump more than hurt him.

He wouldn't have had Bernie won the nomination.

Any third party candidate helps Trump.
