18 posts in this topic

Australia's think that equal marriage should be!

More than 12.7 million people - 79.5 per cent of eligible voters - had their say in the voluntary postal survey.

More than four million or 38.4 per cent of Australians voted No.

Aussie Aussie Aussie -Oui oui oui.

"The voluntary poll is non-binding but Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull immediately said he would fulfill a pledge to raise a bill in parliament with the aim of passing laws by Christmas.

Turnbull played down concerns of a split in his coalition government over the policy as the conservative faction presses for amendments to protect religious freedoms that discriminate against same-sex couples."

Sounds very American.

They are stupid because it doesn't legally change anything and it costs a lot of money- the polls prior showed Aussie were over whelming in favour or same sex marriage.

On the plus side, the Socceroos did great last night and qualified for the FIFA Wold Cup in 2018. That must be worth a tinny or two. :)

I fixed two typos. :)

It's amazing how the opponents of same-sex marriage keep using the same discredited arguments.  All the doom and gloom predictions that haven't occurred in countries with SSM are still trotted out.

It's required 22 games, taken 29 months and over 250,000 kilometres but Australia finally reached their final destination; the 2018  World Cup in Russia.

Definitely at least a wine or two :)

And finally, BOOM.

Quote

Australia has officially become the 26th country to legalise same-sex marriage after the law was passed on Thursday with the overwhelming backing of the Federal Parliament.

Thirteen years after changing the Marriage Act to explicitly forbid same-sex unions, federal politicians voted to undo the last major piece of discrimination against gay and lesbian Australians.

That wasn't so hard, was it?

I'm very happy for all my gay and lesbian friends.

I was also impressed how quickly the government moved after the plebiscite and only 4 no votes :)
