Brain Specialist - Trump Shows Classic Symptoms of Degenerative Brain Disease

In turning my attention to the president, I see worrisome symptoms that fall into three main categories: problems with language and executive function; problems with social cognition and behavior; and problems with memory, attention, and concentration. None of these are symptoms of being a bad or mean person. Nor do they require spelunking into the depths of his psyche to understand. Instead, they raise concern for a neurocognitive disease process in the same sense that wheezing raises the alarm for asthma.

Language is closely tied with cognition, and the president’s speech patterns are increasingly repetitive, fragmented, devoid of content, and restricted in vocabulary. Trump’s overuse of superlatives like tremendous, fantastic, and incredible are not merely elements of personal style. These filler words reflect reduced verbal fluency. Full transcripts of the president’s interviews with outlets like the New York Times and Time reveal the extent of his disorganized thought patterns.

The president’s apparent symptoms are advancing and warrant medical evaluation by relevant specialists. Given the sensitivity of his case, an independent panel would be appropriate. It’s entirely possible that the president does not have predementia or is not progressing toward dementia. But he is definitely behaving as such.

In either scenario, I do not think this is an individual who is fit to serve the office.

Many, particularly on the left, rushed to demonstrate how they were certain Reagan was showing symptoms of the Alzheimer's that killed him while he was in office. They never proved it. It's irresponsible to diagnose without examining the patient.

They never 'proved' it?

Since when has expressing an opinion about the fitness of the POTUS been limited to formal diagnosis?

'They' were right.  King Ronnie was losing it in office, and the RNC chose to cover it up.  Their choice, their consequences.

And guess what?  'They', or 'we' as case may be, are correct again.  The Donald is unfit for office for reasons that would be clear were he to undergo a standard psychiatric examination.

Of course, if he's NOT nutso, a standard evaluation would reveal THAT as well, but I don't think the RNC has any interest in the truth.

The president behavior is not normal. He has the emotional maturity of a petulant boy on a school yard playground. He's a pathological liar and suffers delusions of grandeur. He is subject to irrational outbursts, is vindictive, impulsive, and consumed by anger.

He has demonstrated that he's not fit to be president. The only question is whether or not he's just plain nuts or if it is something neurological.

You guys can deny it all you want but this is just latest story indicating that there's something wrong with POTUS

The president had Alzheimers. That fact does a lot to explain Reagan's behavior while in office.

No, they never did prove it, and no, he wasn't losing it in office.

The author of the article represents himself as a clinical specialist in this area. That raises his opinion to the level of a formal diagnosis.

Asked what's wrong with Trump, I would quote the character from Con Air with the answer, "Off hand, I'd say... a lot". But I'm not a clinician and no one should take my opinion seriously. This guy is a clinician, and it's irresponsible of him to diagnose by remote control.

If Trump has an illness of this nature he will not get better, he will get worse. It will be apparent to anyone within a year at the outside.

I'm still thinking it's syphilis, but it certainly does fit the description of Alzheimer's - and let's face it, they were right about Reagan having it.

You can't prove or debunk ideas without discussing them, can you?

Nationally or Internationaly?  I would imagine that many millions of people are wondering what specifically is wrong with Trump.

From the link in the OP...

Unless one is completely blinded by partisanship, you can't deny what this guy is observing.

I don't like to hear what Donny or any other politician says, I prefer to read the transcripts. This allows you to avoid the inflection which can be distracting. That's what I love about Twitter. When people tweet, they actually have to think about what they are writing. Which eliminates the 'off the cuff' excuse. It's a cognitive two step process that requires more thought.

Long story short, Donny has bats in his belfry.

I did read the article. :)

One cannot deny how Trump interacts with the world. Exactly why he's that way is where this man's professional opinion enters the picture. He might be right. I don't know. A doctor would need to perform tests to be certain. Right now, he's not impaired enough that anyone can reasonably demand an examination. If he suffers from a neurodegenerative disorder, he soon will be.

And how many on the right rushed to demonstrate how certain they were that Hilary Clinton had Parkinson's disease.  My favorite video diagnosis however was the rush to "prove" Terri Schiavo was not in a persistent vegetative state and could be treated.  Those on the right included then Gov. G.W. Bush and even Senator William Frist, MD chiming in due to videos that they saw Ms Schiavo was treatable.  Later Frist and the rest of the GOP that got on board with the case were proven to be fools.

I respect what you are saying in reference to a medical diagnoses. However, many psychological disorders aren't specific medical disorders and cannot be diagnosed as such. I am sure any competent psychiatrists would diagnose narcissistic personality disorder, re Donny.
