Trump to deport 200,000 El Salvadorians who are here legally

The Trump administration has canceled the provisional residency permits of about 200,000 Salvadorans who have lived in the country since at least 2001, leaving them vulnerable to deportation, according a copy of a Department of Homeland Security announcement sent to lawmakers Monday. The administration will notify the Salvadorans they have until Sept. 9, 2019 to leave the United States or find a new way to obtain legal residency.

The Salvadorans were granted what is known as Temporary Protected Status, or TPS, after a series of earthquakes devastated the country in 2001.According to the DHS statement sent to lawmakers, Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen determined that conditions in El Salvador have improved significantly since then, ending the original justification for the Salvadorans’ deportation protection.

“The decision on El Salvador is particularly damaging,” he said. “It not only will uproot families and children who have lived here for years, it also will further destabilize an already violent country. It is incredibly short-sighted and undermines our interest in a stable Central America.”

"they have until Sept. 9, 2019 to leave the United States or find a new way to obtain legal residency."

In related news... police have arrested a man accused of robbing a bank!  Film at eleven.

The Salvadorans were granted what is known as Temporary Protected Status. People shouldn't make a long term plan based on a temporary condition.

17 years is “temporary”?

Just give them all Greencards. Why threaten deportation?

Make America White Again

America should provide a temporary haven to foreigners who will turn and bite the hand that fed them when they are informed their temporary stay is over. Either allow them into the US permanently or not at all.

US immigration dropped the ball once again. The immigrants should consider themselves lucky.

Anyone who falls under this order who can demonstrate some or all of the following 1) has not been arrested for anything major 2) has held a job 3) has had a family 4) has served in the military 5) has generally not been a useless tub, should be put on the path to a green card.

Same goes for the Haitians he’s trying to do this to. And every other person here under this status should probably start looking to make moves to change their status. Cause Trump is going to try to throw you out.

Life has this funny way of happening. After nearly 20 years it’s absurd to say ‘well you shouldn’t have made long term plans’.

Don't expect empathy from "real" Americans.

Because threatening deportation plays well to his core supporters.

Give the left an inch and they always take a mile.

Those earthquakes were over almost 20 years ago.  You'd think they'd be happy go home and help contribute whatever it is they contribute here to their own country to help it out.

Some of them had 17 years to try and obtain legal citizenship.  Apparently, liberals and leftists interpret "temporary" differently when it suits their purposes.

And they still have 20 months or so more to prepare and make plans as understood under the original terms that granted them Temporary Protected Status now that situations that created that granted that status in the first place.

They will be a great help to their own country and its future by helping to build a better one there.

How do you know these people could’ve applied for Citizenship? Don’t you need a Green Card first?

I’m not familiar with this program but I’m pretty sure you can’t jump from refugee to Citizenship that easily.

Well apparently trump thinks the Haitians all have AIDS so it's not surprising he's trying to throw them out

Don't know; don't care.  Jesus was not a citizen of this country either, same as any of the people who might be named "Jesus" who came here on a temporary permit from El Salvador.
