Moody Blues Founding Member Ray Thomas Dies at Age 76

No cause of death was given, but Thomas had been diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2014, and he retired from the band in 2002 due to declining health, although I don't recall any specifics. His role in the band had diminished in the later years, largely because the pop-synth sound the group had adopted was unsuitable for a flautist.

Thomas did not live to see the band inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (which I personally think is a joke), which is due to take place in April.

Always loved the Moody Blues and saw them a number of times in concert. I loved the orchestral sound, although it could be difficult to reproduce on stage without full accompaniment. To me, these guys were way ahead of their time, and Days of Future Passed is one of the all-time great albums.

R.I.P. Ray
