Chinese team clones monkeys

2 posts in this topic

A Chinese team has used the same basic technique used to clone a sheep called "Dolly" years ago to clone monkeys. This is significant because it is the first time primates - the group of animals to which humans belong - has been cloned. Some will remember that Dolly was cloned from a seven year old sheep and was, in a sense, born old: she was biologically seven years old (old for a sheep) at the time of her birth. Whether this will be true of the monkeys remains to be seen. But science is now one big step closer to cloning humans. This particular effort had a low success rate, but that will change if the Chinese build a huge laboratory (as they have said they will) and refine the technique.

Perhaps their next identical army won't be made of terra cotta.

That 3rd Century army is incredible to behold.

Let's not forget that the Chinese invented gunpowder, the compass, paper, the first printing process, many herbal medical remedies  and acupuncture to boot as well as the first flying machine (the kite.)

Sometimes I wonder why many folks take a college education as a right, as many Asian-Americans see advanced education as a gift and now excel over many ethnic groups in many scientific, engineering and medical fields.
