We’ve been doing this a long time and we’re getting older, and it’s really hard touring and traveling,” he said. “My health isn’t very great, so it’s harder for me to tour these days, and everyone’s got kids and families and grandkids now. So we’re just gonna kick back a little bit because of our age…I just want to go out on a high note and make sure the band’s name stays in high regard, instead of going out and playing fairs and casinos and things like that. I want to live it still filling arenas and sheds, like we still can.”

He acknowledges that there's a chance Skynyrd might reconsider the farewell tour, comparing it to how the Eagles retired "for a year or two" and then came back.

No word yet if they will allow the audience to have their phones on their person during the tour concerts.

For the love of God, go.

I might consider it if they have somebody good like Bruno Mars playing with them.

I think there's only one original member left playing in this band which is Gary Rossington. The rest have died. They should just call themselves the Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band. Yes I agree they need to go. I never get tired of their old music though.

Internationally famous? Really? They have been around a long time though. I'll give them that. Have they done anything since the 70s?

Granted, they're not as popular as Justin Bieber is, but that's because they're as old as their audience. Paul Simon is retiring too.  What's he done lately?

I don't know. But I'll guarantee I won't start a thread about it. And Justin Beiber? Really? I didn't know you liked that kind of stuff. To each its own I guess.

Absolutely.

Skynyrd died when Ronnie Vanzant died.

Added lead vocalist Johnny Van Zant: “We’ve been blessed by these great songs and the messages they carry to the fans. It’s been a true honor to try and fill in my brother’s footsteps for the past 31 years, keeping the music and his spirit, alive.”

Since it’s been 31 years since the plane crash, Johnny Van Zant is actually more a part of the band than Ronnie and the rest. I saw them a few years ago at APG...they were great. This farewell lineup sounds good.

Do they still use the Confederate Flag as their stage background decor?

Does Watergate still not bother them?

I think Johnny has a better voice, but Ronnies  style, it's everything. Voices like his, Bon Scott, Johnny Cash, not naturally gifted, but it's all about the style, the music. I love me some Skynyrd.

Bruno Mars is a pop singer.

And?  What are Skynyrd?  Classical music?

Damn straight. The epitome of Southern Rock. They’ve been in existence for almost 50 years.

Bruno Mars is just the flavor of the year.

He's still young.  Skynyrd had a half century head start.  It's not Bruno Mars' fault that he's not in his 60s or 70s. He's done alright for himself as long as he doesn't OD like Tom Petty and Prince and some of those older guys have done or start taking illegal designer drugs like acetyl fentanyl.

If you’ll check, Prince and Petty were taking opioids for pain. Tom Petty was working with a fractured hip. They weren’t taking “designer drugs” for kicks. I believe Petty was wearing a fentanyl patch.

My husband was given fentanyl in the ICU when he was sedated after his recent heart attack...would you say he was taking “designer drugs?”

I’m not going to dispute Mars’ talent. But, he is just another pop star. No one will be singing along with his songs in 35 years.

I don't doubt that they gave your husband fentanyl but I doubt that they gave him acetyl fentanyl which Petty also had in him because acetyl fentanyl IS a designer drug and has never been licensed for medical use in this country.  You cannot obtain it legally. Petty had both in his system along with other drugs.

Look it up.

I still have my copy of  Street Survivors.  You know, the big round disc that won't fit into the computer.  :) Yes the one with the flames on the cover. I'm told it's worth a few bucks. not that it's for sale.
