Orioles sign Cashner to 2 year, $16 million contract

Cashner posted an ugly 86/64 K/BB ratio in 166 2/3 innings last year with the Rangers, but he still managed a 3.40 ERA (138 ERA+) and the Orioles have been in desperate need of decent starting pitching depth all offseason.

Sounds a lot like Miley his first year+ with the O's.

Yeah he's got a small margin of error. Unless he's completely on, Cashner will be another FA SP disaster.

There are some positives, but 2017 looks like the outlier in his career.

I don't care about W-L record.

He needs to keep getting ground balls and walk less batters. Striking out more guys would help too. He doesn't allow that many HR.

We'll have to see what he can do in the AL East but I'm not excited about this move. It's a typical Orioles move.

Of course they signed Cashner. Who wouldn't want him . Wait until he faces the AL east. They're going to shellac this guy.

Let's recap, $8M later, they're still a last place team.

Is there any chance...any chance at all... that Cashner pulls a Dexter Fowler? Please

WHIP 1.32. Not great.

And that was in a good year.

And it ain't gonna get better in the east.

The good news for Cashner is, few people will be paying attention when he gets roasted all season.

A career year

Does that sound familiar? The O's signing a pitcher, the winter after his career year, in the hopes that he'll continue to excel beyond his track record?

And he's from Texas, to boot.

We can only hope he fails his physical and we just sign him for one year.

I'll hold off on the playoff tickets...

Bundy, ,Gausman and Cashner is no Palmer, McNally and Cuellar.

I'm going out on a limb, and predicting that this isn't going to redeem his recent track record of FA pitcher signings. B)

He's done after this season and he knows it. He's past caring.

On this team, that will make him a strong contender for being the opening day starter.

Angelos screwed him over with the Blue Jays job. Dan is just repaying him back in kind.

That's not true. Duquette is only likely going to leave Baltimore; no one's said anything about retiring. Wouldn't it be in his best interests to try and have a successful season to try and boost his future job prospects?

Well, he's better than just about anything the Orioles had last year.

This might not be the worst of signings. Cashner is a ground ball pitcher and Roger McDowell, having been a sinkerballer himself, usually does well with those types.

At least Cashner didn't come with a draft pick attached.

If this is the only FA pitcher signing. I say it blows chunks.

If it is Cashner plus Lynn or Cashner plus Cobb, then I say great!

If it is Cashner, Cobb, and Tillman, I say, fantastic.

I still say take a flier on team-friendly deal with Tillman.

Britt said Tillman has multiple offers on the table, none are from the O's. Either none of the offers are to his liking, or he really wants to stay with the O's, and he's waiting for them to call his people
