Police told man to stay away from 16-year-old Pa. girl before pair disappeared

28 posts in this topic

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) -- Police say a 45-year-old man managed to sign a 16-year-old girl out of her Pennsylvania school 10 times in the last few months and now the two are missing.

Allentown police issued a missing person alert Wednesday for Kevin Esterly and Amy Yu. They say the pair was last seen Monday.

Police contacted Stacey Esterly, who said she last saw her husband about 6:05 a.m. Monday. Kevin Esterly's personal documents were missing and, she said, he had withdrawn $4,000 from his wife's bank account.

Perverted scum. There are men that age right here in MD  who believe it is appropriate to date a 16 yo because the age of consent is 16.

Sickening.

I'd like the answer to that question.

Reading some of the comments asked if he was on the sign out list. The story doesn't say if this could be a child custody case. Maybe he is the girls father.

From the the link:

According to the warrant, Esterly signed Amy out of school 10 times between Nov. 13 and Feb. 9 without her parents' permission. Police said Yu's mother called Feb. 9 to report Esterly had signed her child out of Lehigh Valley Academy earlier that day.

The school, should be in big trouble for this. There is no way a person should be able to sign a child out without being on the parents' list.

Absolutely.

My post was referring to the poster who didn’t read the article and questioning whether it was a custody issue.

It seems the perv and his wife were hanging around Amy's home.

The wife may know their location. I'd wager the cops are watching her closely.

I'm going to assume they were.....given the mother learned her daughter was signed out by the perv and called the police.

A bit more on this story:

The family says they met Esterly years ago at church.

Amy quickly became friends with one of his four children. They spent time at each other's houses.

In fact, Mul Luu even had Kevin Esterly over to their home for dinner.

"Yeah, just a plain nice guy, that tries to help Amy," John says of his early impression of Esterly.

Then he adds, "But not anymore."

He groomed Amy and seduced her family.

Then how did he do it unless his name was on the list ..??

The story mentions the mother, not the father.

Now the texts change the story that he ran off with her. Another creep.

The school said his name matched what they had on file. Maybe the mother didn't know, or the school didn't contact her to ask why his name was on the list.

Perhaps young Amy forged her mother's signature and added his name to the list. This sounds like she may have voluntarily went with him, so her altering the sign out list to set up prior meets is not out of the question.

That is the BIG question.  The school holds a WHOLE lot of responsibility for that. Someone  dropped the ball BIG time.

Exactly!!!  I would never let a 45 year old get that close to my 16 yr old daughter. There is a point where the parents should've asked themselves: "Why is this guy so hellbent on helping my daughter?

That is possible. After the 1st sign out the mother should have been notified if this was OK. The last link posted had the brother say she just walked out of school.

Authorities now believe Yu altered school records, and without informing her mother, added Esterly as her stepfather

Esterly's pretense of being Yu's stepfather and signing her out of school ended on Feb. 9 when her mother happened to arrive to the school to pick up her up and informed the school that Esterly was not the child's stepfather.

The school then summoned the Colonial Regional Police who have jurisdiction over Yu's school.

http://abcnews.go.com/US/mother-missing-teen-waiting-waiting-praying-safe-return/story?id=53658567

stands to reason, when Yu (a child) added Esterly as her stepdad, they should have called Yu's mother to confirm.

That is a big question. I don't understand why a school wouldn't have a parent-supplied list of those allowed to sign a child out of school. They should also be able to supply a password to be used for the (hopefully rare) case where they must rely on someone not on the approved list; that individual can sign the child out only if they provide this password. Of course, the parents should not share the password with the child.

At that age, people love to be loved and don't care by whom, making them vulnerable to manipulation. Only later in life do (most) people learn to temper that.
