President's Steel Tariffs Lead to Layoffs at Pottstown Keg Company

The inevitable begins to happen and, as with so many other issues surrounding Trump, we tried to warn you. This is what happens when idiots elect a man clearly unfit for the office of president.

American Keg is the only company in the U.S. that makes beer kegs using only U.S. stainless steel. The company is starting to experience higher production costs and lower sales as a result of the tariffs.

“Our raw materials are going up, therefore driving the price of an American made keg up, while the import kegs are still the same,” he said.

Czachor said before prices started going up on U.S. stainless steel, a stainless steel keg made by American Keg was about $10 to $12 more than an imported keg. Now, that cost difference is about $20. Czachor said as the tariffs are implemented, he expects to see that price difference increase.

Trump's base will attempt to spin it. Remember he could kill someone on 5th Ave and still not lose support.

ROTFLMAO the only maker in the US of kegs versus the rescue of the entire US steel industry? That's about the stupidest argument against President Trump's steel rescue I've seen yet..

LOL the real story about steel tariffs. :D

Quote

Although members of President Donald Trump’s own party are furious over his plan to institute tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, you’ll hear no criticism in West Virginia’s upper Ohio valley.

“It’s long overdue. It should have been done 40 years ago,” said Mark Glyptis, President of United Steel Workers Local 2911. “These tariffs are going to help to some degree make it fairer to trade. It doesn’t solve the trade issues by any means, but it creates a more fair circumstance.”

Glyptis and many in his industry have fought for years for protection against illegally dumped steel on the U.S. market. The union has long maintained steel produced in nations where the government subsidizes production costs and uses child labor to make their product runs counter to the United State’s core values and interests. Glyptis said the circumstance made it impossible for American steel makers to compete.

Trump's base by and large doesn't listen to the news except maybe the top of the hour radio highlights.  They have their grudges, fears and preconceived notions about everything which forms their world view. Their news is AM radio jocks complaining or a crime that happened to a friend of a friend that proves what they think about minorities or, if they are old, Fox News.  Or they could just be dumb beyond ignorant. I doubt genuine tariff stories filter through to Trump world.

They watch Faux News and Hannity. Trust me, it'll come up at some point and be spun by their masters. The 30% will be Trumpers until the end.

ROTFLMAO a big fat nothingburger. The one company that's affected because they are the only domestic company that makes kegs can do something else and be on their way.

Actually, who cares? He’s a moronic troll

I didn't see where American Keg was opposed to tariffs as a general principle.  They just want a level playing field and are suggesting that the tariffs be extended to include finished imported kegs so that the costs would be more in line with US. made kegs.

From Joba's previous quote post:

“It’s long overdue. It should have been done 40 years ago,” said Mark Glyptis, President of United Steel Workers Local 2911. “These tariffs are going to help to some degree make it fairer to trade. It doesn’t solve the trade issues by any means, but it creates a more fair circumstance.”

There is a grain of truth the this quote....in particular the bolded on. Again this is just an opinion.

I think it may have worked if done then. Way before all the trade agreements and the big companies internationalizing manufacturing and such. Things now are way to interwoven....and obviously way beyond carrots tops little pea brain to understand.  It becomes more and more obvious that Trump is nothing more than a slum lord with minimal intelligence, a brut, and just basically a low class low life.

Which as we are seeing there are way more people in this country than we ever thought.

Worries over a looming trade war have already hit Iowa pork producers' pocketbook to the tune of $240 million from falling prices, and the damage will likely grow, industry leaders say.

On Friday, China said it would impose tariffs on $3 billion worth of American-produced fruit, pork, wine, seamless steel pipes and more than 100 other goods.

A 25 percent tariff on pork was unwelcome news in Iowa, the nation's largest pork producer.

"It could really put a hurt on us," said Trent Thiele, an independent pork producer in northeast Iowa.

Ethanol producers, too, are on the Chinese tariff hit list.

The country proposes increasing an existing 30 percent tariff on the fuel by an additional 15 percent.

Iowa leads the nation in ethanol production, shipping out a record 4.2 billion gallons of the renewable fuel last year.

About half of Iowa's corn production is used to make ethanol and dry distillers grain, a feed for livestock.
