Topgolf high-tech driving range coming to South Baltimore

235 posts in this topic

Cool deal.

Topgolf will take over a site adjacent to the Horseshoe Casino Baltimore next year, adding another entertainment destination to South Baltimore.

The high-tech driving range is expected to open in 2019. The Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, located at 301 Stockholm St., is expected to relocate to another city-owned site in Cherry Hill to make way for Topgolf.

yeah that’s cool. I’ve never been to a TG so I’m looking forward to this.

I've been to the one in Ashburn, VA.  It's pretty cool.  Wishing they would have chosen a location in Howard or AA County, I won't be going to the one in the city.

Good, one less person I'll have to worry about clogging up the place.

Seems Pickle is looking to get the boot I'd say.

Hardly.

The place will be packed, like all Top Golf locations are. If Cowboyz isn't going to be going, there will literally be one less person there to clog it up.

:D

Can someone please explain the fascination with golf?

There is no real exercise, there seems to me a multitude of variables that super computers would have issues with, everything about it is expensive. what you bought yesterday 'to improve your game' is old hat today, a 'match' can last hours....and so on.

To me....as best I can determine is that ....golf....is a great excuse to spend a day ....not having to do chores to keep the wife happy. :D;)

I have played a great number of sports ....and golf was one....I just don't see 'it'. If I want to be frustrated....I will come here or go back to work. :D

If the city golf resort is as successful as the State's failed attempt at Rocky Gap (and that was a Arnold Palmer designed course), well taxpayers, get ready,  bend over, and the government won't even think of giving you a kiss  (or a reacharound) after. :P

Hey....if it is purely an investment on the businesses ...have at it.

But as you are implying if the state is going to get stuck with the bill....welllllll.....what he hey it's only money.

It's one of the only sports where you are really only playing against yourself. Sure you can play against others, but you're really just focused on lowering your score each time out. I suck at golf...been playing 20 years, very little improvement over that time, but it's a great way to spend a day. And yeah it can get expensive, but there are always deals to be had, and some courses are cheaper than others. Plus, when you do something good, like hit a beautiful shot off the tee, or sink a 20 foot putt, there's almost no better feeling.

You won't be alone.  The truth is that location matters.

It's the same reason that Horseshoe Casino's revenue has decreased while the revenue at the other casinos here in Maryland have increased.

As you have pointed out numerous times I can be my own worst enemy;).....maybe that is why I don't like golf....who wants to fight with themselves.

Just curious...did you ....on your own....just decide to play? Or did you have a friend/family that did. The few people that I know that golf got connected to it that way.

A friend and I went to a driving range one day when we were bored and it took off from there.

My uncle was way into it and so is his son. He tried to get me interested...always brought over his 'old' club (he replaced it with one that was GUARANTEED to take 3 strokes of his card)...and he tried to teach me....just never took hold. I gave the clubs back and stuck with the standards football, basketball and baseball.

Good.  Meanwhile, maybe you have an idea why revenues are down at Horseshoe Casino while they're up elsewhere despite the convenient closeness of downtown.

But once the newness wears off TopGolf could wind up like the Casino.

I don't see it. Top Golf is a license to print money everywhere else. Baltimore is in bad shape but this will bring people back to the city. And at least they'll have golf clubs they can arm themselves with in case of a robbery on the way in from the parking lot.

Good point. The company may realize after awhile to relocate.
