Baltimore Police Commissioner Darryl De Sousa has been charged with failure to file his taxes.

Quote

The 53-year-old was charged with three misdemeanor counts of failure to file a U.S. tax return. He faces a maximum sentence of one year in prison and a $25,000 fine for each of the three counts.

2013, 2014, 2015.

Sounds like it might be just the tip of the iceberg.  Nobody's that stupid.

NEXT UP!!!!!!

He's not high up enough to go with the old "I forgot" excuse that other politicians use.

He's good at apologies, so I think one is in order.

Remembering to file your taxes is very hard, maybe even harder than reporting income on signed sworn statements without committing perjury!

You'd think these clowns pulling down big bucks from taxpayers would spend $60. or something like that on Turbo Tax by now.

Today a candidate for governor died, a guy got cut in half by the train, the mayor said a teenage murder victim deserved it, and the police commissioner caught a federal tax case.

Just another day in B'more.

(Gasp) who does he think he is, a Politician?

When he came on board, I said that the Politicians and media would be out to get him. (He is too honest and works too hard to be accepted by either).

The criminals have seen how the Mayor and City Council are out for the Commissioner's head and I personally think it is the reason for the upswing in crime.

Can you imagine how low the crime rate could go it the Mayor, City Council and local media would support the Cops?

Yes. The media told him not to file taxes for multiple years.

Good sir,

I am not suggesting he is guilty or not.

My point is that this type of crime normally goes unnoticed unless someone is trying to dig up dirt on you.

All he had to do was file his taxes. There’s so many ways to get that done. Yes, he’s a busy man...but no busier than others who manage to get their tax responsibilities taken care of in a timely manner.

There’s absolutely no excuse for this. None.

I guess he was too busy pulling down big bucks to spend a few to engage a tax specialist.

My wife and I ....on retirement....managed to keep our paperwork in order...hand it to a tax specialist....pay 160 bucks....done....1 hour.

smh.

It's unbelievable that he hasn't been fired yet .....

I saw his statement on the news .....

I accept full responsibility for this mistake .... didn't prioritize my personal responsibilities ....

Hey, it's not a mistake, it's a federal crime ......

Must be something in MDs water....Spriro....Danc'n....White....Dixon.....now the commish.

Admittedly does his not filing taxes have anything to do with his ability to run a dept.? Maybe maybe not.

But I do know this....if....in the normal world I grew up in....and in my career...especially one with clearances....if 'they' found out....you were toast....gone. goodbye.

But then we have the Donald.

Yes the world is going to hell in a handbasket.

Well it shows he doesn’t keep his priorities straight. It shows he thinks, maybe subconsciously, that he’s above the law.

I can’t imagine why he even had a job to begin with.

How many years before the IRS comes after you for being a no file?

Wouldnt a simple background check find that our?

This is just some stupid stuff.  He should have cleared all of that up before he decided to except the job.  He should have know this would come back to haunt him.  Just something else to make Baltimore look bad, as if we needed anything else.  SMDH

Don't disagree at all. But the new Guido is trying to be a kinder and gentler Guido. Particularly, when it comes to the on-going screw-ups in the city. :D

Kidding aside. I am a kinda 'whole package' type of person. IMO....I do think you can overlook 'little stuff' ... like he got a ticket for parking ....and accept 'the rest' of what makes up a person and his policies if appropriate. But, when it comes to this thing (multiple tax violations) or like with Danc'n literally lying twice on paper and then again about income when cornered. Well to me....yes they are singular 'mistakes'.....but ....way beyond .....oooooopppssssss.

On the other hand....some people are IMO....'singular package' types....that is....if that flawed person....is meeting the talking point or 'hot button' for the agenda they support....they can overlook the other and in sometimes ....multiple other flaws....because of that.

I can't.

Pugh is a huge joke too and so are a lot of those on the city's council.

The city's police commissioner, the top law enforcement official in the city, "willfully" didn't file federal or state income taxes for three years, is indicted for those federal crimes, and they're reporting now that more charges might be forthcoming since he is still under investigation by the feds.  The two Assistant U.S. Attorneys who are investigating and brought charges are the same ones who investigated the GTTF.  Coincidence?

In other cases rank and file cops are suspended from duty for something like that, but De Sousa remains on the job and Pugh continues to express that she has "full confidence" in him. It's hard to believe that De Sousa didn't mention his failure to file tax  situation when he was being considered for his appointment  as commissioner and wasn't asked.

Pugh's legacy will be that she makes Sheila and Stephanie look good in comparison.

Now he gets to pay an attorney top dollar to sort this all out. That's hysterical!

I bet that $200.00ish per year for tax prep sounds a lot better right now.

I'm sure his "resignation" will be announced soon.
