A high-ranking Baltimore Police commander who founded a nonprofit to improve police-community relations after the city’s 2015 unrest is under investigation for using the charity’s funds to pay for a personal European vacation.

Maj. Kimberly Burrus, who oversaw robbery and non-fatal shooting investigations before being selected for a national fellowship known for grooming the nation’s next police chiefs, admitted she was being investigated for theft by the department’s internal affairs section during a December custody hearing for her son, The Baltimore Sun found.

…The evidence was a bank statement that he said he spotted in a recycling bin on his wife’s porch.

…“ “Over $2,000 was taken and used to purchase tickets for Kim’s vacation.”

…In addition to the allegations against Kimberly Burrus, Torran Burrus testified during the court hearing that he also had filed a 14-page internal affairs complaint against his supervisor, Col. Osborne Robinson, alleging Robinson had harassed Torran Burrus about an affair he was having with Kimberly Burrus by making lewd comments and gestures at work. Torran Burrus said he was on paid leave for more than a year because of stress from the situation, which he claimed the department was ignoring.

The subject of the investigation also has a current fellowship with the International Association of Chiefs of Police thanks to ex-Commissioner De Sousa, who also completed an IACP fellowship.

Might be time for a Wire reboot. It'd write itself based on local news stories.

I don’t believe the ex-husband saw her bank statement laying in recycling.

Stranger things have happened.

I've seen Fed employees lose their retirement for fudging their time cards.

Just read an interesting tid bit in the paper.

Quote from the Sun today: 'Kinberly Burrrus was sent to her current fellowship with the Internation Association of Cheifs of Police by then Commisioner Darryl De Sluse ho had completed his own IACP fellowship before........................'

Hmmmmmmm now that does ring a bell.....oh yeah it sort of sounds like Dallas and White in a way.

Mentoring is a good thing I guess.....if you don't get caught.

A year of stress leave? Personnel should answer why they are still paying this snowflake to sit home.

Infidelity can do that to some people, especially when your wife is "bending over" for your supposed best friend and boss. It's amazing that additional people to include Col. Robinson have been mentioned in this scheme / lust affair and the only person who's being "punished" is Kimberly Burrus. Col. Robinson is head of some "Integrity" Unit. Oh, the irony...

It's even more amazing that it took exposure by a newspaper story for the police department to react.

Baltimore Police commander recalled from elite fellowship, suspended after Sun reveals theft investigation

Is the police department really that inept?

That's a rhetorical question.  They can't even admit what happened in the Suiter case.

Yes it appears so....from the article.........

The theft investigation into Maj. Kimberly Burrus’ actions has been open since at least December, months before she was sent to the International Association of Chiefs of Police as a fellow in March. However, her recall and suspension with pay did not occur until Monday, after The Sun....................

And if not for the divorce proceedings it would have never come out likely....there would be a wink wink node node I am sure....but it came out in court..no dodging that.

It has become more than obvious that the PD has a LOT of problems with the character of the officers it hirers.....from TOP TO BOTTOM.

Maybe it IS TIME  to think about a complete tear down and rebuild using the consent decree as a model to design the new one and implement it. If I recall correctly more than a few departments around the nation have been and all had been slapped with consent decrees.

I am honestly surprised the Sun reported it. If it were about an elected Democrat, they would have sat on it.

A year of stress leave? Someone needs to tell the snowflake to toughen up and transfer to one of the many other units. He is playing the system as of now

Fake news. The Sun reported on Sheila Dixon's scandal. Try again.

I don't know if you've ever experienced what Torran Burrus did, however, that still doesn't excuse you from making judgemental remarks about his mental health as it pertains to his personal issues. Things like this affect people differently. If you have experienced your best friend having a sexual relationship with your wife, I'm pretty certain you of all people are not going to "toughen it up" when it comes to dealing with something like that. If you've never experienced that, count your blessings and hope you never to deal with something like that. Imagine having to go through it, having to see both your wife and best friend at work knowing that they're having a sexual relationship and you cant do anything about it. You wouldn't know what to do with yourself.

How do you know he's been home for an entire year? How do you know that he's been getting paid to sit at home for an entire year?
