I’m certain that their views on women and minorities were probably not good. We’re talking about the 18th century here...

What was "mainstream" in the 18th century is not acceptable today, but branding such people as "racists" (in the context of today's perceptions) simply because they lived in a time that held views that have proven to be unacceptable in the centuries to follow is an unfair characterization, in my opinion.

Not to mention some were slave owners and colonists certainly wanted to take as much land from Indians as they could.

I'm praying if the Caps when it all, they do the right thing and give Frump the finger at his invitation. The Warriors too.

The Warriors didn't go last year. Went to the zoo instead.

Of course it is.  It is intellectually dishonest.

So you're saying that the founding fathers and people who chose to fight in the American Revolution were "racist white Americans"? Really?

Does your anti-white racism know no bounds of decency? Just curious....

It's not a 100% thing, but you do realize many of the black men who fought in the revolution were returned to slavery when the war ended, don't you.

Correct. They weren’t perfect human beings.

Some were enlightened and some weren’t. Some definitely were racist by any standards...

No defense of that era, but branding people of that era as "racist" in today's context fails to recognize the reality of that era. Those people did not look at themselves as being "racist" as we would define it today - they viewed themselves as adhering to the norms of the time, which very clearly had an un-evolved perception of racial differences. This is evidenced by the fact that most colonial era transplants from England or Europe regarded the Native Americans as "savages", with no clue as to the ancient culture that those Native Americans actually possessed, which in many ways was a rich as the ancient culture of Europe. It was what it was, and things have evolved.

We'll agree to disagree. If you're of the opinion a person is inferior to you and you can own them like cattle based on skin color, you're a racist in 2018 or 1776.

So proud of Torrey. Local guy, former Raven...breaking it down and making Trump look like a buffoon which isn’t hard to do but still.

I think we’re going to see championship teams skip trips to the WH as long as he’s president which is great. Him crying over Brady not coming is hilarious.

No one likes you, dummy. Deal with it.

You figure the American Revolution coming on the heals of the British Empire ending slavery is a coincidence?

at least one player is taking on the giant orange dotard's lies head on

the NFL caved to a racists and a bully....and just like a bully, this malignant narcissist always wants more....

Torrey Smith just took down this liar in 3 tweets....

So many lies smh
Here are some facts
1. Not many people were going to go
2. No one refused to go simply because Trump “insists” folks stand for the anthem
3. The President continues to spread the false narrative that players are anti military

There are a lot of people on the team that have plenty of different views. The men and women that wanted to go should’ve been able to go. It’s a cowardly act to cancel the celebration because the majority of the people don’t want to see you. To make it about the anthem is foolish

If you are going to tweet...tweet facts...no one on the Eagles took a knee last season.

the giant orange dotard is becoming more unhinged by the day....

Just wish Torrey Smith had been this forward by trying to catch that last pass of Flacco's in the 2014 playoff game.

Actually the belief that some people were inherently inferior to others was the norm of that time, unfortunately. People who did not agree with that norm were thought to be outside of the mainstream of civilization.

Just as today, people who still hold on to a belief of superiority of one race over another are looked at as being outside of the mainstream of our 21st century civilization.

If one want's to define 17th century civilization as essentially racist, I can agree with you. But that is different that suggesting that every member of that society, or even most of them, were individually "racists" by the 21st century meaning of the word. They were born, lived, and died in an environment that said the "correct" view of the world was one of the inferiority of certain races, or segments of races (as in some "superior" African tribes choosing to sell "inferior" tribes into slavery). Thankfully civilization has evolved (or at least some of it has) beyond such beliefs, and today you and I (and I believe the majority of people) no longer accept the "superior versus inferior" concept because that is what we have learned from the civilization in which we live. We believe we are correct, just as the folks in the 17th century thought they were. It is what they "knew".
