I am paying for Comcast "Performance Plus," which runs $52.95 a month. But I didn't know (because they didn't tell me) that I can get Economy for $24.95 a month. But I want to make sure I'm not getting Economy now (can you tell I trust Comcast). How can I check my Internet speed to see if I'm getting what I paid for?

Also, is Economy as slow as dial up. Economy is:

download speed768 Kbps/upload speed 384 Kbps.

Economy is approximately generation 1 DSL. If your internet activity mostly consists of mail and web surfing, it may be adequate. If you do more, you may find it onerous.

Hey, thanks you guys. Here are my results:

9011 kb/s 1703 kb/s 33 ms Washington, DC ~ 50 mi

I think I am paying for "Performance," which is 6Mbps/down & up to 768 Kbps up.

I'm not sure how my numbers fit in though. My down seems low and my up seems high.

In any event, I do more than just emails, etc., so I guess I'd better keep this.

Did that speed test and it said my ISP was Comcast. I have Verizon DSL

Speeds were way higher than I pay for.

My favorite speed test is from speakeasy.net (see URL below). It performs it’s test based on your location. So pick the Washington DC test. It will also give you the IP address of what you’re connected to. It’s very accurate.

That was a weird result for me. My upstream was actually faster than down. 3Mb/3.5Mb. I should be somewhere near 4-6Mb up and 1.5Mb down.

Why am I afraid to click on the link for scanmyspeed.com?

After a reply 6 years later? Yea, what could go wrong?
