Question regarding Barry Bonds:

17 posts in this topic

I thought Barry was NOT a member of the players union.

I thought he opted out in order to increase his cut on jerseys and MLB memorabilia that bore his likeness, signature, etc.

If that were so, what would the union have to say about his contract?

Thanks in advance.

I've never heard about this before now. if my understanding of unions is correct, it doesn't sound possible.

He opted out of the joint marketing deal, but is still a member of the union.

I think.

Yeah, that's really annoying if you like playing the MLB games, because he's one of like three MLB players whose likenesses aren't on the games (side note, one of those other guys is Kevin Millar)

Was bound to happen sooner or later. Law of averages and all that...

Who's the third guy?

It will be someone like Brendan Donnelly.

Not that there's too many people who know what he looks like anyway...

Millar was a replacement player (scab) in 1994 and is banned from the union.

I thought that was why. I know there's at least one more guy, but I'd have to break out the old games to figure out who.

The O's would probably be better off with the "S.R.B.G." playing first base.

At least they used his name. I remember an old version of John Madden Football where Eric Dickerson's "name" was NON-NFLPA as he was not a member of the NFL Player's Association.

Millar used the name Mike Butcher.

I believe the only other guy still playing is the Brewers' Damian Miller; he went by the name Don Cross.

Cory Lidle, killed in a plane crash in October, used the name Fuller Starr.

I always like to give Bonds a new name anyway. But it's not fit for posting here...
